Yes. It should be retired, Wizards need something to look at in the rafters, since there aren't any championships going up there for a while

Nah. Don't forget that this is his 3rd retirement. His last retirement was supposedly his last. There was a farewell tour around the league that year when everybody thought that was going to be his last. The MJ retirement hoopla is blown way out of preportion this time around IMO.

I agree that he definitly was the greatest player to ever play (as a Bull) but he realy hasn't done anything special as a Wizard except score a few 40+ games.

I can't remember where I read this, but Jordan's jersey is NOT being retired for the Wizards. His #23 will be retired in Chicago after he has finished up playing for the Wiz.

Chicago retired his jersey back in '95 when MJ first retired! It's been hanging there ever since.

It really all depends I think on if he gets the wizards to the playoffs and does something from there on. If he doesn't make the playoffs, then I say no, they don't do that. But if they make the playoffs, then knock off New Jersey, then maybe another team...then he retires, and this team builds itself into something special in the next couple of years...Maybe then they retire his number. To me the question really should be....does he need to retire?? The guy is amazing at this stage of his career...I mean, sure he has a bad game or two here and there...but hell, everyone does. The last six games he's averaging 25 a game and he's shooting over 44% for the year. He's still a top 20 player in the game at 40 years old...and I personally see no reason why this team couldn't use him next year. Even if it is off the bench in a much reduced role. I truly believe when he leaves this team, they will be awful again, he is the only reason along with some help by Stackhouse that the Wizards are even thinking playoffs. However, I guess at some point, at some age, you just get tired of the work and grind it takes to play at that level. We all get tired eventually, I would imagine that its not easy doing what he's doing against guys almost half his age. The body just says, I'm tired of doing this, even if it can do it at a great level.

It should not be retired as a Wizard. He has done absolutely nothing to warrant his number being retired as a member of the Wizards.

Now, on the other hand, I would like to see the number 23 retired from all Chicago sports teams.

. There was a farewell tour around the league that year when everybody thought that was going to be his last::

There was no farewell tour the last time he retired. He didn't even know for certain if he was gonna retire. He even said it himself that he was coming back until Phil Jackson left Chicago.
