He reminds me of Rik Smits. He's going to be a nice player. I just don't see him dominating. He doesn't have the quickness to get up and down quick enough. His recovery is something you can't teach. I don't know how many times he was thrown the ball so close to the rack and it took him 2 days to get the ball up to the rim. By the time he got the ball up to his shoulders, guys have gotten back to strip or block his shot. I saw this happen on a number of plays during the game. I just see alot of those little things that will keep from dominating the game.

    <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

You also have to remember, he had NO pre season at all.
He was tired before his rookie season even began...and it's amazing he is doing so well this late into the season.

He won't dominate like Shaq, but he'll be the best C in the league within 3 years...and after that, look out.

It took Hakeem over a decade to <font color="blue"> </font> dominate.

nah, i don't think so, i think yao is quite a weapon and he'll be better when the time comes, the ball doesn't go much to him that's why his number isn't that good, but i can say that he is hell of a weapon, he is also a good free throw shooter by the way.

Good point, another trait which is rare (and seems to becoming rarer by the season) for most big guys coming out of the collegiate system.

            He's gonna be something special.

i dont think yao will ever averge 30 points a game but in a few years he may be averging 20, 11, 5 and 3 blocks....

all i can say is that i can see that yao will have a great future, no doubt! he can pass, he has the shooter's touch at his height, he can block! and i can see he is becoming physical in the paint as time passes!

I agree. He's beautiful to watch.

Unlike Shaq, has a very smooth game and is very creative in the post, adding more and mor eto his arsenal every game.

I believe he can become very good in the next few years and will be more of a force especially after the upcoming off season.

Perhaps some of you are forgetting he is not used to NBA style play yet, nor does he speak or understand English very well.

He is only 22 years old, turning 23 in September of this year.

Let this guy get two offseasons under his belt. I'm sure the Rockets have a guy that will bulk him up and improve his quickness and agility. He just needs two offseasons to work on his body, the rest is already there. Also, in China they only played 40 games in the regular season, he's hitting that "rookie wall" that rookies hit after the all-star break.

remember, Kobe was deemed a FAILURE by everyone after his first 2 seasons in the league. Kobe had bad shot selection and many said he should have gone to college, look where he is now.

I agree I watch Houston a lot (because i got Yao on my fantasy team) but often times they don't make enough attempts in getting him the ball!! Its too much one on one by Steve and Catnino(sp) Plus Yao probably hit the wall he's been playing all year around!!!
