lakers used to also have eddie jones.

Destroyed what was a great team in the works. I just don't see the reasons justified. At the time Eddie Jones was their best defensive player, and could've been pretty fabulous by now under Phil.

i don't know, it looks like the move worked out OK for the Lakers. haven't they done pretty well the last three years?

Sure they have, but the issues arriving now wouldn't even be the case. You now have Samaki Walker, and Derek Fisher, and Devon George opposed to those other 3.

          Ya, coulda been great.

          PG - Nick/Fisher
          SG - Eddit/George
          SF - Kobe/Fox
          PF - Sucky/Horry
          C - Shaq/Elden

Ok, everybody lets come back to reality. There is a thing called the Salary Cap and there is no way that the Lakers could have afforded keeping those players. Have you seen the contracts that Van Exel, Elden, and Eddie have? Plus the only player out of those three that I think could play well in the triangle is Jones.

Plus Van Exel is too trigger happy and the lakers already have one gunner (kobe) who shoots at will.

I'm a Laker fan and I think that we have as good of a shot as any team to bring home the championship. I dont understand how people can say we have a weaker bench this year or our role players arent as good. My question is did the lakers ever have a strong bench the past 3 years?!

Shaw, George, Horry, Walker and Madsen are playing at the smae level that have the past 3. They are all inconsistent and always have been. The same goes for fisher and fox. The only players the Lakers lost were Harper (who was hurt most of the last 2 season), Grant (who is over the hill now), Hunter (who sucked last year) and Richmond (who never played).

I agree. My points exactly. I was just saying that if we kept everyone, it would have been pretty fun and interesting.

My point was, they do make the team stronger. Jones' salary wwasn't at the level it is in Miami then, and neither was Campbell. They somehow managed to have the team together before, I don't see why they wouldn't have done it winning rings. As far as the bench being called weak, it comes out the mouth of more Laker fans than any other. And Van Exel saved the Lakers soooo many times in games it should never be looked at as a bad thing or put down. Nick was there putting the work in before Kobe had steady nerves.

Ya, I am a Laker fan, and I say the bench is weak.

Of course I say this cause I look at the Lakers bench, and I look at other teams benches, and that's how I come to that conclusion.

First, Jones and Campbell contracts were up the year after the lakers one their first championship. So the Lakers would have had them for ONE year and then lost them to FA because they could afford to sign both of them to those boig contracts. Second, Campbell always played like crap behind Shaq. Every single time, Shaq would be injured and he would start he would play well but he couldnt come off the bench or play well while Shaq was no the court, so he couldnt have helped us the last 3 years.

As many big shots as Van Exel made for us, he took a ton that were bad(ex. 1999 series against Utah). I loved him as a plyer but when he was traded I thought they made the right move. Plus he isnt the type of player who would succed in the triangle offense.

The only bad move made by the Lakers front office was the trade of Jones for Rice but we still one 3 rings anyway,
