I know. I'm just saying that they were poor defenders when they came into the league and with time have improved.

Melo doesn't even put forth an effort and Ben Gordon is always going to be a liability defensively. All I'm saying is that his offensive game will only get better as he gains experience. The same applies to Redick.

But what I was also saying is that Redick will not being getting murked night in and night out. On nights when he has to guard a better offensive talent, he shouldn't get as many minutes. Either that, or have him switch up and guard another player on D. Leave him out there, if he gets worked on a few possessions, pull him out, or make a defensive adjustment like switching or bringing an extra defender to help.

I just think that Redick could be highly effective on offense. Not saying he can be top scorer. Just that his minutes will have a good effect on the team as a whole. He moves well without the ball and he possesses a great jumper with great range. I think that if used correctly, a team can greatly benefit with him on the floor.

And outside of Korver those guys are astronomically better athletes than Redick.

Remember that thread about "What is the 1 most important skill for a basketball palyer?" - this should prove that shooting may not be the most important skill.

Of course it's not, otherwise 5'8 50-year-old men would be playing in the NBA.

I wish he would get traded to a team that will play him. I want to do what the man could do. Good, bad, pass, fail... I don't care. I just want to see what he could do if given a chance.

I concur. I have played so many 40-50 years that hobble up the court to the 3 point line and just launch away. No handles, no athleticism, just a sweet shot that hardly ever misses.

Couldn't agree more. That's mostly what I want to see. Dude doesn't even get a shot and people are throwing shots at him not really knowing what he could do on the floor because he hardly EVER plays and only gets in during garbage time.

The chance is to show what you can do is practice... honestly if he was doing well in practice do you think a coach would not play him. In a situation where a few loses here and there could eventually cost you your job what motivation would a coach have in not playing a player who is doing well @ practice

Doesn't that tell you enough? There isn't some huge conspiracy to keep JJ Redick on the bench. If he was good enough to play and help the Magic win he would be on the court when it mattered.

Not really. If he is 3rd best at giving the coach what he wants at that position, or not what the coach is looking for at that position, he may not get in. I think that is the case here. They like what he does, but not enough to play him over other players.

When those other players consist of Keyon Dooling, Keith Bogans, and Carlos Arroyo, that's not a good sign.

lol. True. Still he can't be that much worse than Kapono on the Raptors or Carrol on the Bobcats. Then again, I dunno. They keep saying that like what he is doing in practice, and they love his work ethic.

We are saying the same thing....

                            Kyle Kover

                            Jason Kapona

Both have more atheletic players who get to start/get more PT then they do, but they show enough in practice that their respective coaches work them into the game to utilize the talent. If he showed enough to beon the court then he would play. There are a bunch of shooters (specialists) that make it on a squad in the NBA every year the difference between the ones who get burn and the ones who fade way is that they work on the other parts of thier game enough to where their liabilities dont out weigh their talent.

I don't think it's a huge conspiracy at all. That was other guys saying that...lol

I just was wondering why the Magic weren't using him in the beginning of this thread. Then after reading other posts and thinking about it harder myself, I can understand as to why he doesn't play.

Gundy likes defense. JJ hasn't displayed the ability to perform defensively.

JJ's top asset is his three point shot. The Magic don't need that as they are one of the best in the league.

So, he really doesn't fit with the Magic. My problem is stemming from people knocking on him before the man gets a decent shot at proving himself. I just want to see what he can do if given the chance as I see some nice upside to him in the right situation.
