Coming from someone who despises Duke....

Redick is one of the best shooters and hardest in-game workers I've ever seen play. By his senior year he basically unstoppable because he had developed enough handles to drive by you if you went for a head fake and he is a surprisingly strong finisher (not a dunker of course, but he can take some contact and put in a layup).

He knows how to use screens as well as anyone and is obvoiusly well conditioned so he can run baseline to baseline until he finally gets 2 feet of space and can get a shot off. And it's not like he needs to be set to shoot either, he'll catch fading away and still make it.

Negative is probably that he gets eaten alive on defense most likely. He obviously can't guard a Monta Ellis....but I think he could hold his own against a fair number of guys. Redick is no puss, he's a tough guy.

He CAN create his own shot....just not off the dribble against superior athletes. But it's not like he falls over when he dribbles. If you flinch on a pump fake he'll drive by and pull up and is also a capable passer since he draws attention.

He'll end up contributing somewhere.

I guess it all depends on your definition of "creating his own shot," but I don't think he would have any problems getting good looks. IMO, using screens and catching a pass for a shot is creating his own shot.

Orlando won't play him because he can't play well enough to ensure playing time.

Didnt realize you were such a genius when it comes to Orlando and their rotation. Last I checked Stan Van Gindy said multiple times that he wishes he could get Redick playing time but there isnt a spot, not because he isnt any good, but because they have multiple players who fit the same bill that Redick would fill, and there is the problem with him staying in Orlando. I dont claim to know how he will turn out, I think he is good enough to be a solid contributor in the NBA but this garbage about not being able to create his own shot is a joke, there are players that either rely completely on screens to get open or are on a team that allows them to get open looks from double teams in the post. What kept guys like Steve Kerr in the NBA exactly? He was a shooter and nothing more, and he made shots off of double teams and kickouts, and there are others who made a career doing the same thing. Redick is just an easy target, he got a lot of credit in college for his shooting touch, he went to Duke which everyone seems to hate, and he hasnt gotten a real shot at consistent playing time since entering the league, but its easier to dump on the guy then wait until he gets a shot and see what happens. Redick gets far more crap then Morrison gets, same draft class and he has either been injured or vanished when in games, but somehow he gets a pass and Redick doesnt, interesting to say the least.

What kept guys like Steve Kerr in the NBA exactly?

A 45.4% 3 point average including 4 years at 50% and up. 13 of his 15 season 3 point % averages were better than JJ's highest %.
If JJ shoots 51.5% on 237 3s, he'll get some PT and people will stop criticizing him.

Thing is, Gundy is a defensive minded coach. Add that to the fact that the Magic were the second best three point shooting team in the league and there really wasn't a need to play Redick. The other guys could knock down the jumper AND play defense to go along with getting to the rim.

His services just are not needed in Orlando.

Redick cant knock down a high percentage of threes when he barely plays, and I would think that would be obvious but apparently, yet again, the hate for Redick blinds people. Secondly, comparing Bogans, Dooling and Arroyo to Redick means nothing, this team already has perimeter shooters, they dont need another one out there, and that has nothing to do with those 3 mentioned, it has more to do with Hedo and Rashard Lewis who love to camp at the three, you cant have your entire roster standing at the three and waiting for a pass out from Howard, thats why he isnt getting on the court.

Now specifically to The Soldier, first off I never said he was going to be a great player, I said a serviceable player that could chip in 10-13 points a night, he is considered a great shooter due to his college stats and nothing more, who the hell cares what pub he got in college, there have been a lot of people to come out of college with a lot of pub and they vanish before they arrive. Lastly, I never said there was a conspiracy against Redick, never, he is in a position where he is on a solid team with similar pieces to Redick, and thats why he needs a change of scenery or more playing time. If Redick gets the chance and bombs out of the league then we can close the book on him, but its so tiresome listening to people claim they are such smart GM's from the comfort of their own home and trying to forcast what a certain player will or wont do, which half the time is based on whether or not they like the player or dont.

Grant Hill got hated on when he was injured constantly and he went to Duke, Morrison hasnt been healthy in the NBA yet and he gets a free pass, Sean May has been dinged up every year but he gets a free pass, if they went to Duke they would be getting the same garbage that Hill got and now Redick gets for a different reason.

Dont point out the obvious, its far easier to dump on Redick then it is to wait and see what he does when he actually gets playing time. People love to say he cant create his own shot, 1/3 of the league cant do that and relies on screens but nobody mentions that, hell this league has become all about the pick and roll, the NBA runs some of the most boring offensive sets Ive ever seen.

None of those guys are good shooters, and there's a reason they've all bounced around the league. They're all average players, and the fact that their defense and driving ability is keeping Redick on the bench pretty much sums up what everyone is saying about Redick. He may be a good shooter, but he can't do anything else, and that's the reason he's not getting any playing time. As far as Orlando just not being the right place for him, there aren't going to be many teams around the league that don't have guards that can offer more than Redick does. He's going to need to find the perfect situation.
