Re: D Rose putting in that work last night

The way he was playing, I don't think his effort was just the result of it being in pre-season, the way JJ Redick, Gerald Green and so many others play well before the season begins.
LOL, you're going to eat your words, bank on it. Don't hate on my J.J..

Anyway, Rose is gonna be a complete animal. I had my doubts about them taking him over Beasley, but after watching him play like this I can see why they did it.

        Seriously!

This kid will set someone up and....BOOM!....explode out of the triple threat leaving the defender in his wake.

He puts folks to sleep with slow, calm movement and then BOOM! Much like Marcus Banks did @ UNLV

            He's not a combo guard. He's a pass-first, pure PG.

I don't buy into him being a pass first PG. I hate when people call him that.

              Types of PGS

              Pass First (Stockton, Brevin Knight)
Somewhere in between (Deron, Mark Price, Hinrich)
Shoot First (Steph, AI (College or Whenver he played the Point), Baron)

Rose would fall in the middle for me

Rose is Wade with more point guard instincts. A pure point guard? Come on Bulls fan

Thats the thing, ALOT of people call him pass first though. I don't understand.

Pass first to me is usually a PG that has trouble scoring so he has no choice. Andre Miller, Brevin Knight. Stockton can score every once in a while. Tonio Daniels, Avery Johnson. Those are PURE points

I think it's fair to characterize him as a combo guard, his point guard skills are very evident still. He definitely deferred at Memphis.. but he's not a pure point guard by any means at least in my eyes.

Man, I can't stand JJ Redick. I was at the TD Waterhouse Center screaming in agony during the draft, while every dumb Magic fan was cheering. I wanted Ronnie Brewer.

I hope JJ does well this year, I just don't see it happening.

The NBA is so exciting nowadays! So much talent spread throughout the league. I can't wait til the season tips off. Oden and Rose will definitely be the top 2 ROY vote getters, and I wouldn't be too surprised if either makes the All-Star team.

It isn't humanly possible to be a pass-first point guard in Memphis' offense.

So I guess guys like Magic and Isiah were not pure PGs? I'm pretty sure neither one of them had trouble scoring but they looked to get their teammates going when they were in their prime. There is no such thing as pure PGs. There are good PGs and bad PGs. The ones I just mentioned were HOF PGs.

Zeke was not a pure point guard in my eyes.

Magic was a flashy passing PG which forced people to believe that he was a pass first PG. He was a hell of a passer but I wouldn't classify either one of those dudes are PURE points. I know it goes against everything we have been brainwashed to believe as basketball fans but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

So in order to be a pure point guard you have to be an offensive liability? Rose is a distributor first and by nature, but because our team doesn't have alot of good scoring options, he will use his athletic ability to produce points. Doesn't mean that he doesn't want to pass first and set up his guys.
