Detroit trying to free up some cap space eh??

$38 mil combined from Sheed and AI coming off the books next year. Makes them an interesting team this year and lets face it, they weren't getting past Boston with their current team anyway. I like it for Detroit.

Don't care about Denver one way or the other but this is a good move for them too. Gives JR Smith significant minutes alongside Billups. Hopefully he can provide some leadership for them, but we all know they are in the lottery this year.

I guess it depends on where you play AI.

Something that hasn't been mentioned but...what about AI as the sixth man off the bench? Gives you a ton of scoring off the bench and let's you continue to use Rip like he should be used.

Plus, Melo see the likes of his friends with Wade and Bron doing big things, i'm pretty sure he wants to get there also..

Since the olympics Melo has been a different player.
He saw that last season & got swept. I don't believe Melo has it in him. He reminds me of Dominique Wilkins. The numbers will be there, but the success in spring won't.

Definitely a head-scratcher. You can't insult Rip with taking him off the bench. I'd let Stuckey sit another year.

if anything tayshine may go to the bench, curry wanted prince to become an "all star" type talent this year and if he doesnt become the "go to guy" expect him to be an six man...Pistons was talkin bout a 3 guard lineup anyway with stuckey, billups and rip...I knew sumthin was wrong when AI wasnt a team captain

and why is everyone downing the nuggets like they are some scrub team???? they won 52 games in the west last year and they got sweep by a great offensive team....nuggets dont play D but most teams in the league dont...........last couple of teams that won the chip was a GREAT defensive team

I see no way AI doesn't start. They will keep Stuck coming off of the bench. When he doesn't get in foul trouble, he plays alot anyway as they go small. He will play alot tonight. LOL

That was last season. Denver let a number of players go, including Camby, for practically nothing. The West is too tough to be taking steps backwards.

Re: Iverson to Pistons for Billups/McDyess

I'm torn up by this... watching AI every night in Denver was a treat. I like Billups, and hopefully this means a starting five of Billups, JR, Melo, K-Mart, Nene (which is pretty serious) -- but losing AI kinda sucks. The AI-Melo experiment probably didn't "work" but it was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and I'll just miss having dude around. What's confusing about this deal though is that it doesn't really shed much salary for Denver -- unless McDyess just comes off the books somehow (not via buyout), we're picking up a guy who will be making over $13 mil in 10-11, which more or less kills our flexibility.

Basketball-wise, I can see a newly team-oriented AI (people really haven't been watching him lately, have they?) creating havoc and getting the Pistons shooters open. He's a more-than-capable passer, and all he wants at this point is a championship, so I'm sure he'll do whatever Dumanrs and Curry think he needs to do in order for them to win.

For the Nugs, I think that this is a definite downgrade talent-wise, but might be an upgrade chemistry and leadership-wise. Billups and JR (which is the only starting backcourt that makes sense now) provide great size in the backcourt as well as capable defense (shut up if you haven't watched JR this year -- much improved). Billups takes smarter shots, holds the ball less, dribbles less, and is just a more efficient player than AI. With all the firepower around him and a slightly faster tempo (Nugs slowed it down a bit this year), Chauncey should be among the league's assist leaders and will get a ton of open threes based off the attention Melo (and now beasty Nene in the post) draws on nearly every play. His ability to lead the team, control the ball/limit turnovers, and hit the big shot when we need it will be an upgrade over AI... but I just hope that this won't be a lost season due to him having to learn the offense and build chemistry with everyone.. I really think this group has a chance if they play the way they have in the first 3 games.

I can see AI having a 6th man type role on the team.

                                Interesting move, nonetheless.

And did somebody just say that we'll be seeing the 2001 Iverson on THIS team? LOL
