Re: 2/2-2/8 NBA Discussion
Dallas made a "win now" move that didn't pay off. Now they have to flip that move, think on their feet and put themselves back into a situation of growing talent. Right now they are shrinking talent. If they could add a superstar and keep Dirk, then great. It's just simple strategy. You explore all scenarios for winning a championship with Dirk before he's 32, and if you can't do that, you trade him and put yourself in a position to do it in someonelse's prime.
And you have to be realistic and specific. You basically are saying, "How are we going to be better than the Cavs, Magic and Lakers within three years?"Comment

It's about making sure your team is always moving forward. When you have key pieces past their prime, you have to put yourself in a position to have growing talent. An improving salary situation is growing talent. A high draft pick is growing talent. Tradeable assets are growing talent. Very good key pieces who can't win it are potentially a bad team in a couple of years.

as far as Dirk, he is in his prime right nowLast edited by ZB9; 02-02-2009, 09:31 PM.Comment

Re: 2/2-2/8 NBA Discussion
Never said he wasn't. That's what I meant by "before he's 32", or before he's OUT of his prime. Him being in his prime now is worth squat because as you said, they aren't even in contention for a top seed. His prime only matters if you have a gameplan to capitalize on it, otherwise his prime is best used as trade currency.Comment
