An interesting topic I want to raise is how much different is this than the flagrant they called on Dwight Howard against Dalembert?

Here is a really good video showing the foul from different angles if you haven't seen it or can't decide:

In fact, now that its been brought up, Dalembert should have thrown a punch back. For pure strategy. That might have gotten both kicked out & suspended the next game. I'd have taken myself out of the game if I was Miller and let Del Negro pick the best shooter to hit two and send it to OT.
He was bleeding from the foul. They had that option.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Del Negro doesn't get to pick, Doc Rivers would have had the choice.Too Old To Game Club

It appears you are right.
I was thinking that the foul on Rondo was a flagrant foul, in which case the Bulls would have got to pick the shooter.
Either way, that's a stupid rule.Last edited by Lintyfresh85; 04-30-2009, 01:18 AM.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Only on a flagrant 2 does the offended's coach get to choose from among the players on the floor to shoot the ft's. On a flagrant one, the opposing coach can pick the substitute.Originally posted by VP Richard M. Re: Brad Miller: Celtics are cheap headhunters...
Ok iv been reading the thread and i just saw the youtube vid on the page, and wow. Reading the thread i was thinking not flagrant. After seeing the video... Well..... IMO it seems he never aimed for the ball, he didnt have a chance at it. It seemed he wanted to foul. I think he intended to get the arm, but the big man never brough it low enough and he ended up with face.
So let me get this stright.....
an Intentional foul is not a flagrant right?
A flagrant foul 1 is more of an intentioal foul that went to hard?
A flagrant foul 2 is when you intended to hurt?
Something along those lines?
What i saw was.... an intentional foul attempt. He missed and hit hard. That seems to equal a flagrant foul.
However i was reading that a flagrant has to be unnecessary. Contact was necessary but not where he hit. Since that was a necessary time for a foul (no would be mad if he hacked him) thats what seems to take it away from flagrant. If thats the case they need a rule change.
They should have called it flagrant but i can see why they didnt. If they can review things like that why didnt they see what i just saw? I see the logic the refs used, but still.
I dont watch the nba at all anymore, but reading this board does make me wonder about how it run. All i keep reading is a Lakers-Celtics championship. And didnt the celtics benefit from the non call? Coming from an outside perspective, something doesnt seem right. That being said, bad calls happen, and that could be what that was. Just reading these boards has me questioning the NBA though.
So from an outside prospective, that should have been flagrant. But rules are rules. Even though rules arent always right. I can see why the thread has gotten this long.Comment

Re: Brad Miller: Celtics are cheap headhunters...
I am having a hard time understanding how Rondo's play can be debatable compared to the reactions that other plays got.
Ariza's foul on Rudy was much more of a play on the ball than Rondo, yet he got absolutely vilified for it. If that was a flagrant 2, then Rondo's foul should have at least been a flagrant 1.
What's worse is after calling a flagrant on Wade's foul attempt on Evans, the NBA should have at least upgraded Rondo's foul as well. I can't see how Wade's defensive attempt is any more flagrant than Rondo's. Rondo's play reminded me more of Horford's foul on TJ Ford from a couple years back.
I know the situations are different, this being the playoffs and all and I know the refs like to let the players decide the game (which is one of the most inconsistent conceptions of basketball), but that was a little ridiculous.Comment

Re: Brad Miller: Celtics are cheap headhunters...
Anyone catch todays game when Miller caught the ball at the top of the key (just like last game) and the only person between him and the basket is Rondo. Brad drives, lays it in right off the glass. Rajon pretty much just watched. No attempt whatsoever this time. Then got a little smirk on his face. Just reminded me of this play/thread.Comment

Re: Brad Miller: Celtics are cheap headhunters...
That call was absurd, it was a hard foul but shouldn't have even been a flagrant one. Just looked worse cause Rudy went flying awkwardly but Ariza got the ball on the block."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Brad Miller: Celtics are cheap headhunters...
my take ------Rhondo is over-rated and miller is a big baby. he gets slapped in the face, and he pouts and misses his free throws....big wooopie. at the end of the series these two teams will be viewed as !. celtics are overated
2. bulls are big babies
cavs win it all in the endComment
