Yes you are right. He didn't want to be a fourth option on a team when he believed he was a better player than that. That has nothing to do with wanting to win. If anything it show how much of a competitor he is and I think he has proven since he left that he is a damn good player. Let's also not forget him coming back extra early after breaking his orbital bone and concussion with the Suns to play in the playoffs. Joe comes to play every night, goes hard, and doesn't miss games with weak or nagging injuries.

Re: who REALLY wants a ring?
Yeah it does. If he wanted to win he wouldn't have re-signed with Detroit. He would have gone to Cleveland or maybe even Orlando. Obviously he felt there was something more important than making a championship run.PS: You guys are great.

Re: who REALLY wants a ring?
If any of those superstars TRULY wanted a ring, they would play for $10 million and let that other $10 go towards signing better players
When it comes down to it NO players cares about a ring more then there own fortune. Players won't sign for less money until they know their career is about to end. That is what I hope happens with Dirk, he is one of the few players that I think would sign for $5 million when he is worth $15 to have a better chance to WINComment

Re: who REALLY wants a ring?
I think some of yall are missing the spirit of the thread though
We all know everyone wants to win a ring. I believe the OP was asking who wants to win the most.
Tough to prove who and who really wants to win the most but to me that was the point of making this topicComment

Re: who REALLY wants a ring?
I really hate these "if so & so really wanted to win he'd sign with LA/Clev/BOS for X amount of less money" posts.
These guys have A LOT of pride in what they do. I'd venture to say more than what the average person does for a living but assuming is what doomed this thread from the start.Comment

Re: who REALLY wants a ring?
never said that a player should take a lesser salary to be on a championship team BUT the point was who wants it the most?...
who sacrifices, who doesn't give up, who doesn't put their team at jeopaardy, who overcomes, who seems to only talk about winning the championship, who seems aganized by not winning a ring, who works the hardest?
no; there is no SET CRITERIA sor "wanting a ring" or way to know what goes on behind the scenes or in the minds of players, as goes for plenty of other threads posted here but it wasn't intended to be a rebuttle debate... it was meant to be a DISCUSSION.
all players would say they want a ring but the basketball is a lot different desire wise than other sports... in basketball u don't have to be the competitor that u have to be in say football because you can coast on sheer talent... so the question was... in UR opinion... who REALLY wants to win a ring above pride, money & anything else? (and that most certainly is not all players in the league)
to the "superstars only" comment"; thats why i wanted it opened up to discussion, being that i c mostly Houston & Philly games, i can name the role players on those teams but wanted to hear from everyone else.
FYI 23... talk about assuming?! this is the ONLY sports site i look at besides NBA.com... if im on the net im on here... never even heard of the site u named! (i think for myself & like to hear other people's takes)Last edited by ronyell; 05-14-2009, 11:32 AM.Comment

Unless you're in the lockerroom you have no idea who is really working hard and who coasts. Some guys do not have to work as hard as others.
No matter how hard a player like Tyronn Lue works he is never going to be better than Derrick Rose.Comment
