What Are Some Things YOU Would Change In The NBA?

Given the opportunity to do make changes to whatever you want, what would you change?

    I'll get things started...

I've mentioned before that I would like the playoff structure reformatted.

Some may disagree. But I would like to see the first round be a three game series. the second round a five game series. And both the conference finals and finals be seven game series.

It would make the first two rounds much more exciting IMO.

Every game would be worth far more. I think this would translate to the court as well, as I think we'd see the effort from the players and the energy would probably crazy in these early rounds.

It also give rise to possible upsets which are always fun. Adds some unpredictability to the playoffs, especially in that first round.

As of right now, I feel like a seven game series is just delaying the inevitable. And a large majority of first round series tend to lack excitement.

I think changing the playoff format will be a good thing. I never understood why it was changed to begin with.

Re: What Are Some Things YOU Would Change In The NBA?

I may entertain the wider key like they use in international play.

    The bench leaving rule
    The 7 technicals rule

I would like to examine the handcheck rule and all of the interpretations of that and scale all of those fouls down so that one on one defense is more leveled.

I would actually seriously entertain just adopting international rules like allowing zones and abolishing the illegal defense.

I would entertain foul outs. I might want to raise the foul out to 7 or 8 fouls.

Ejections for technicals I would raise to 3.

I would also like to allow players to taunt more and have more freedom to celebrate after a good play. No more quick T's for that.

I would also like to make the court wider. Not longer just wider.

No more lean ins to draw defensive fouls

    I'm sure there's more

Get rid of charging-blocking fouls and that restricted area crap.

Lean-in fouls = offensive, not defensive foul.

Change the shot clock into an actual shot clock, not a "hit-the-rim" clock.

Give technicals for obvious flops (although this would give more power to refs).

      Many, many more.

Change the hours of games. I'm tired of 2am or 4am games

Seriously: Bring back the 2-hand guarding, less calls on every nonesense...bring back the old game...

Get rid of all foul calls. May the bigger, badder man win.

And stop drafting any foreign guy (especially Chinese) just to make the game more popular in that country.

I'd bring in the penalty box for techs and foul outs. Instead of game long suspensions and giving the other team free points, just sit the player for different amounts of time ranging from half of a quarter to two quarters.

Definitely a wider court. Six inches should do. Players are too big, man.

I'd allow offensive interference. Box out, bitches.

Refine block/charge, allow more room for no calls. Fouls should be a clear invasion of the other player's space or body. Natural body contact=no call.

I'd go back to the 5-7-7-7 format.

Lower backcourt violation to 6-7 seconds.

No more fines for coaches calling out refs.

Mandatory review on all techs, flops and flagrants at half time.

I also thought about the "power play" idea, Born. That would be pretty darn cool, and a good way to punish techs/flagrants.

Not sure exactly how it'd work though.

No suspensions for number of techs or flagrant fouls in the playoffs

Redefine the charge. Instead of being set and falling over, it would only be called for egregious offensive violations of the defensive player. Basically, the only people getting called are those pulling the Lebron shoulder charge or the low post elbow.

On the same hand, no more touch blocks.

Flops will be added with techs and flagrant fouls. They will only be analyzed in the post game, but those who collect 3 in a week will be forced to wear clown shoes and a skirt on the court and a dress before and after the game.

If you aren't in the air, no continuation, but add some sort of clear path rule for the paint.

Only four teams make the playoffs from each conference to help make the regular season more relevant and entertaining. Sub .500 teams do not deserve to be in the playoffs.

It's impossible to do but a violation for flopping. Not sure it'd be a personal foul, but maybe every third flop is a one-shot technical or something along those lines. I like the idea of post-game analysis of flopping as well.

                        A longer/wider court.

                        Call traveling by the book.

I don't like the penalty box idea. 5v4 basketball? No thanks, especially with how ****ty/inconsistent NBA officiating is. The last thing we need is some crappy flagrant foul call halfway through the 4th quarter of Game 7 of the NBA Finals and a team has to play the last 5:00 of the game down one player? Ugh, that is just a recipe for ugly basketball. It would also lead to a slower game, teams down a man would work the shot clock down every possession.

                          Make the court wider.

Abolish zone defenses (Creates too much congestion in the lane)

Adopt the international rule of allowing for the ball to be interfered w/ on the rim

I for one love the dotted line. Standing under an incoming player directly under the basket deserves to be a foul.

                            Challenges!

Too many bad calls that don't get reviewed until after the game is over (some of which are game changing calls), and that needs to be changed.

Only be able to call a timeout when you are on your feet. I always hated scrambling to fight for a ball, or you lose it then call timeout on the ground. I rather see fighting for the ball and then get call or a jumpball.
