Re: What Are Some Things YOU Would Change In The NBA?

First of all, I'd cut the regular season down from 82 games to 58 with every team playing against each other only 2 times per year once on each other's court.

Second, I'd cut down the number of team that can make the playoffs from 8 in each conference to 6 with only the top 2 teams in each the divison making the playoffs. The format would be like the NFL with the teams with the top 2 records in each conference getting a first round bye and the rest being wild cards.

Third, I'd bring back the Sonics by transfering the L.A. Clippers franchise to Seattle but keep the name Clippers as well as the Clippers colors, history, logo, etc in Los Angeles. The team would assume the Seattle SuperSonics logo, colors, history, etc. It would be like they never left town.

The first 2 rules would help to make the regular season matter more, make division play matter more, and help to bring back rivalries in the NBA. The third would write a wrong that was done to the city of Seattle without having to move a team that people actually care about. Besides, Clipper fans would evently become Laker fans anyway.

The other problem is the current defensive culture that stems from players not wanting to be in foul trouble. I'm sure D.Stern doest care because it leads to more scoring.
I would say penalize a player for getting more than 6 fouls by giving the other team 2 shots and the ball. It'd be better than having that player leave the game.
I really like that idea. It "puts them in the penalty", so to speak.

I like the idea of a secondary tier of the penalty situation as well. Coaches would probably only leave superstars on the floor once they've hit 6 fouls but it's definitely a good idea remove disqualifications due to fouls.
