spinning elbow is the move that substantially helped Shaq and the Lakers beat Philly in 2001. Never underestimate a spinning elbow

I think the Magic's offseason is going quite well.

People overpay for guys like Gortat all of the time. They give them the full mid level, or higher, then the team realize that the player is what he always was: A good backup center, who becomes a average starting center, at best.

I think the MAgic get 1, possibly 2 years of a condtioned, in shape Carter who will actually care on a consistant basis, and when you add Jameer back into the mix, and pray that Dwights dedicates himself to devoloping a post move or two, and you havea legit chance of remaining a title contender for the next couple of seasons.

Realistically, a title contender has about a 3-4 year window to close the deal, and the Magic are well in line for that.

Considering Nelson is what 26-27 and D12 is 24 the Magic will be fine for a while...

I don't have any problems with Orlando's moves. Yes they made it to the NBA Finals this year but this was a weak season that lacked great teams. If they returned the same team next year and the EC stays healthy then they wouldn't stand much of a chance to get back to the Finals. Using "why break up a conference champion team" as a concrete reason to label this as a "poor offseason" is foolish IMO.

Their match ups destroyed Cleveland but they barely beat a Celtics team without KG. That same Celtics team will have KG back plus Sheed coming off the bench and possibly more. The Cavs have added Shaq (everyone with solid understanding of basketball is lukewarm on the move) which is a gamble but there's no doubt it is an improvement.

It doesn't sound like they ever really had a choice on Hedo anyway. It was good to get rid of Alston and who cares about Lee? It sucks to lose Gortat but the guy was a back up center, you're going to crash and burn the following season if you lose your back up big man. Not to mention the return of a healthy Jameer.
