Re: why is everybody so high on jeff van gundy?
Jeff Van Gundy is an amazing coach. Van Gundy was not the one who "screwed up" the Knicks, that was all Scott Layden. He's a very intelligent basketball man and very dedicated to coaching. He is also good at dealing with the media. He is always attending coaching seminars and always trying to gain more basketball knowledge. I don't think there is anyone better to guide that young Cleveland team that Jeff Van Gundy.Comment

Van Gundy screwed up the Knicks? What are you talking about? They were a playoff team every year he was here, and started missing the playoffs once he was gone.
Yes he left in the middle of the season, but no one knows all the facts over what made him leave.
Van Gundy took an 8th Seed all the way to the finals, and the East wasn't as weak as it is now when that happened.
IMO he is a great coach.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: why is everybody so high on jeff van gundy?
Everyone needs to remember the media circus that went on here in NY that special 1999 season. It was discovered that Dave Checketts lied when he said he never contacted Phil Jackson about taking over the Knicks. That team played for Van Gundy like they would have no one else. It made Checketts look especially bad, that he had tried to run out a coach that wound up taking an overmatched team to the NBA Finals. I remember that final game against the Pacers in the Conference Finals, when the Garden was chanting his name, and his wife was in the stands crying. The guy is a great coach, and deserves a great opportunity. I can only hope he's still around when the Charlotte franchise starts looking for a coach.Comment

I heard Van Gundy will or has already signed with Cleveland. If so it'll be a good move for the Cavs as he's a very good motivator and is a master at taking little talent and turning them into world beaters.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
