If techs are handed out then yes it is a big deal.

Hopefully players will just be fined if anything.

There's going to be problems bottom line, I'm sure there's ways to solve this issue without making this rule.
Again, get off it. There's no way that anyone would ever enforce that if it truly was a big play.

        LOL at get off it.

Like I said "if" they hand out techs it will be a problem. If they don't hand out techs, it's fine by me.

I actually think the vagueness of the order will work out to the advantage of all of us who prefer a bench full of emotion. It seems like the NBA just wants to get rid of prolonged bench standing - a sort of loitering. I think they probably will do away with the standing until someone scored business as well and I'm fine with that.

However, the vague terminology lends me to believe the sporadic bench freakouts will still be more than plausible. I cannot see a bench getting T'd up because the play they stood up for was not spectacular enough.

cant they make the fans' seats a little bit higher up so they can see over the players?

Maybe, but I wonder how big of a problem it would be for the fans sitting behind that first row. I'm not sure how easy or hard it would be to elevate each row.

The very creation of the rule is unnecessary, and will only lead to problems. I'm sure there are a number of solutions to the problem without such a rule.

Plus there are a handful of teams that have their benches stand until they score their first point.
its for idiots like Varajao of the Cavs and Vujacic of the Lakers to sit their *** down because they don't need to be up 24/7 like they have to crap or something.

The fans who generally have those seats aren't there to watch basketball, they are there as a status symbol.

"I went to the game last night, had floor seats!"

"That's cool, what was the score?"

                  "Umm, I forgot..."

I specifically remember a Lakers game during the playoffs last year when the bleachers started out kinda empty til almost halftime. (may have been game 5 in the Houston series) When someone asked me why they weren't packed for a playoff game, I said that they aren't there to watch basketball, they are there simply to say they were there. You don't even have to arrive on time to tell your colleagues at work that you had floor seats. Personally, I'm more drawn into the game when I see these players getting excited about it, regardless of how many millions of dollars they make. Don't ruin that.

That's a horrible generalization. What about the other 80% of fans who save up for close seats because they want to be close to the action? I've got some pretty expensive tickets for a couple of games this year, and it's an investment. I'm a college student with very little money, so a status symbol they are not.

They also aren't right behind the bench, but I know of people who save up their cash for a long time just for one game behind the bench.

Yeah, you're right. My bad. Maybe it's just the Hollywood crowd. Only people that were there for tip-off were Jack Nicholson and a handful of others. Meanwhile, when they played in Houston, place was packed immediately. Still doesn't make this a good rule, however

Re: LeBron unhappy with new Bench rules

To me, the only people this affects is teams that stand at the beginning of games until they score or people who get off the bench to argue. As it stands, those who leave the bench are supposed to get technical fouls and/or fines. As for the people who stand at the beginning of games, such as the Clippers, I guarantee that most of them do so begrudgingly.

Seriously, nothing will happen from this except that the Clippers will have to sit at the start of the game, which I'm sure most of them will be happy to do. Obviously, the NBA would be nothing without its fans, and making them mad for any reason is a bad idea.
