    Emotion or hobby?

Is anyone here emotionally attached to their team? Or are you a fan just to be a fan?

For me it's been something I have been emotionally involved for the past 10 years. I am 20 right now and I been watching my team through ups and downs for the past decade. This is truly the best sport I love not like. For me 2000 was the most memorable season....Blazers Vs. Lakers. For years I have been finding myself to seek a payback against the Lakers...But besides being at home it has not happened. Then the Jail Blazers era came and I felt like my team was empty...Then Roy and Lamarcus came and it began new hope. I dont hate the Lakers I am just bitter against them...So Laker fans do not take it personal.

So anyone want to shed some of their emotion on their team? Or just comment on how much fun you enjoy watching.

I was emotionally attached.. when I was like in elementary school through high school, which was exactly when Van Exel got drafted and culminated when Kobe lobbed to Shaq against Portland. Back in those days I would literally get upset with opposing teams and players [mostly Utah/SA/Queens, Hornacek, Foster, Ostertag, Robinson, Elliot, Webber, Christie, Turk, Funderberg, Mateen Cleeves].

Since moving on to college I'm glad to say I've grown out of that and although sports pretty much owns me I can say I'm nowhere near emotionally attached to any team or player.

I started appreciating the art of it all probably when I was around 20.

Pro sports, Absolutely not. Well not anymore. I'm a huge Heat and Celtics fan yet the greatest NBA-related memory i have is the Warriors beating the Mavs in the playoffs. I saw the Heat and Celtics win the championship yet in regards to the Heat i think i'd still rather have seen what Caron, Odom, and Wade could do together.

With college absolutely yes. When my team loses it sucks. It absolutely sucks. The most painful losses i've ever endured as a fan involved college sports (UConn losing to 'Nova in the BET and UConn losing a regular season game to Duke). I just dont feel that same level of attachment to pro sports anymore. 9 times out of 10 the players have absolutely no attachment to the team or the fans of that team and they'll leave at the drop of a hat. Pro sports cant hold a candle to college in terms of hitting your emotions and making you live and die with your team, atleast for me.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I'm from Chicago, and been a Bulls fan 20+ years, and I'm 27 now.

I went to U of I for 4 years. While in HS, I wasn't even sure where I wanted to attend college.

Definitely more emotional when it comes to my pro teams.

Im pretty sure he's a Suns fan.

On topic: I'd probably say I'm a bit more on the emotional side. Some days when the Lakers lose I feel depressed for the rest of the day. (Especially Rival games, and DEFINITELY chokes *ahem* 2008 Finals GM 4 *ahem*)

My favorite player was Kenny Anderson. I followed him team to team and when his career slid with the Celtics it was an obsession. I watched every game, disected every play and box score, argued his value to the team etc.....

Now I just love watching the game. I love the league. I root for the league instead of teams. Sure there are teams I tend to root for (G.S., Indiana, Chicago, Milwaukee, Toronto, L.A. Clips) but for the most part I just root for good games played well.

The only team I get really emotionally involved is with GA Tech and the Chicago Bears.

But when I was 21-23 years old I was too emotionally involved in those Celtic teams of the early 2000's.

                        Emotion.

It started emotional for me when MJ popped a crucial three over Clifford Robinson in the NBA Finals. I was 6 or 7.

If you wanna know why I'm emotional about the Lakers, just gimme your e-mail and I'll show you something I wrote up a few months ago.

But I'm much more emotional about my Suns. MUCH more. Sports are my life. I don't have much in the way of other interests, so I pretty much hang on sports. It's a tie to my innocence and youth, among so much more.

EDIT: Oh wow, you thought I was a Laker fan this whole time? Wow.

I don't get too upset when dealing with the NBA. A playoff series loss sucks, but it is what it is and I move on. I don't get upset at all dealing with regular season losses.

I am emotional about all my teams and sports in general. Don't know what I would do without sports.
