When you look at it it begs the question: Just why did Memphis sign AI in the first place?

I'm pretty sure the No 1 reason is jersey / ticket sales?

To me this is all about a coaching strategy.

I can't have Conley and a bunch of scrubs on the court. I can have Iverson and a bunch of scrubs on the court.

It is that simple. Iversons strength is exactly what the Memphis second unit needs.

The first unit is stacked with scoring and guys who can create their own shot (Gasol is even an above average shot creator in the post.

My arguments through this whole thread are about what is best for Memphis this year.

All excellent points, JR.

The only alternative is for Iverson to follow Barkley's advice and think of himself as a great asset in helping the other Memphis players be successful, and focus first on making the game easier for them.

Didn't think about Chicago. With Rose in the backcourt though that would be giving up too much height. I think Chicago needs a post presence or a dead eye shooter to play off Rose more(Morrow). Even if he got Gordon-like minutes, it seems to be apparent that he doesn't like being anywhere near the bench. I do believe these recent organizations (DET/MEM) have been signing him and not being clear about his role in advance with him-or lying flat out. This was already confirmed by Rip in DET atleast.

JET is great in Dallas but he could still get his points/minutes off the bench. JET could probably play some pg along with a.i. and get some good looks off A.I.'s penetration(If he doesn't wait til the last second to pass:wink

Iverson is the best guard 6'2 and under ever point blank period!

I've seen Iverson beat teams scoring and passing and playing defense.

Sure he's not the same Iverson as before but

18 points on 66% shooting 7 assist in 28 minutes in the numbers from a LEGIT STARTER/All Star

normally, i would tell you his fg% will end up closer to 40%. but watching him play this year, he has only been taking good shots. I think he will shoot around 47% this year if he continues with the good shot selection. hell he has even gotten shot clock violations and let time run out in the quarter because he didnt want to take a bad shot and passed off, yes thats bad awareness but the simple fact he is not forcing anything impresses me...

AI this year:
46 minutes, 13-21 fg, 1-1 3p, 3 rebounds, 8 assist, 29 points....

You just said him getting shot clock violations and holding the ball at the end of quarters to keep his FG% up is a sign of him improving.

Everybody says A.I. has a bad fg % but up until last season him and Kobe shot the same Fg% for they're careers lol.

Billups is lower than Iverson and shoots less a percentage most of you are just talking out your *** with not much fact!

That's why I'm not debating much with some of you "So Called Basketball experts" because half of you don't know **** you're talking about.

Like the guy that said Iverson need 19 attempts in Denver to be effective lol.

Go look at that season and tell me how much Iverson averaged 26.7 and how much the other top scorers shot per game and averaged!!!!!

Wade,Kobe,and Lebron all had 19-20 shots guaranteed!

um i said it was a result of him not forcing up bad shots yes... if you have watched the games im sure you have seen that he is passing way more than he is shooting and picking his shots very wisely... he is passing up shots he should take... you are missing the whole point... instead of shooting he passed because he didn't have a good shot... that's the point... normally, when he is shooting 41-42% he would be taking a lot of bad shots...

Pre-Denver he was FORCED to do that.He only had to legit starters on that team Iguodala and Dalembert and neither one of them are scorers and Iggy was in his 1st and 2nd year.

Now if he had a KG,Stoudamire,Shaq,Gasol,Duncan,etc... and was losing because of these reason some of theses fools is saying I would have no argument but his best big man was a 34+ Dikembe

yea man he shot 45%, then chauncey went there and shot 41%.... AI also averaged more assist than chauncey when he went there... but somehow chauncey is the savior of the nuggets...

how the hell does a lower fg% and lower assist make you more of a team player? no one has ever explained this to me...

i always thought fg% and assist would highly demonstrate who has a better shot selection and who is creating for team mates more...

Iverson was better than Chauncey across the board, but somehow people give Chauncey credit for playing better than AI...

It was obvious the biggest difference was the guys surrounding them...
