The annoying thing AI would do in Denver was drive into the paint, go baseline and then get trapped under the hoop and have to do a jump pass to get the ball out of there... was a TO about half the time. Other than that, I don't remember him just dribbling around... Melo holds the ball as much as AI does really, but he's stationary usually, so it's not as risky or noticable I guess. I always thought AI ran the pick and roll great with Nene... too bad they hardly had any time to play together.

I don't understand why they think im biased towards Iverson either. I'm a Blazers fan from Seattle. I have never rooted for Allen Iverson or a team he has played for until now after he received all this negativity, now I want to see him do well to shut people up. During Iverson's prime when all young black kids idolized AI I was always the one arguing against them. I defend him now because people are jumping to conclusions based on ONE season where a whole franchise was discombobulated and no one had a chance to succeed. So now because I have a difference in opinion people think im an Iverson lover. I'm far from it. There is no evidence whatsoever that Allen Iverson has declined from the 07-08 season so im not going to imagine that he has until I see it.Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
I don't think you are biased. I just don't understand how you can endorse this type of behavior from a seasoned vet. When will he get it is all I want to know. I agree that he SHOULD be playing more. But he isn't. He JUST got there and he is ALREADY crying. You don't see ANYTHING wrong with this?
Nobody is denying his skills. One of the best to EVER do it. But, why is he STILL acting like this? He could have handled it better is what I believe.Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
It's just hard for me to believe that a role was not discussed before he signed. Its obvious that the coach did not come to AI before the game and say "I'm only going to play you between 15-20 minutes tonight to keep you fresh". I mean it's obvious Iverson was driven by emotion to say what he said. As a coach it is your duty to make sure your players know their role, and know what to expect. When you don't clarify these things, this is the result.Comment

This is his opinion and it is considered by most experts and layman fans as wrong.Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
Never done that in his career? His step back and fade from the freethrow area was one of his bread and butter moves in Denver. My claim in that post is that it is hilarious to slander Chauncey Billups' decision making, especially contrasting it with Allen Iverson. Stop it with the '*****' bull****. It's lame.Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
FWIW, the Denver brass thought AI noticeably lost a step from 07-08 to the opening of the 08-09 season. As far as I'm aware he was healthy, but he was supposedly getting torched by the likes of Anthony Roberson and other guys who aren't even on NBA teams right now. They were worried about him mostly on defense but claimed that his first step seemed slower as well... that was a lot of the reason that they jumped at the Billups trade so quickly beyond all the stuff that Chauncey brings.
Since I've hardly seen him play since then (few random DET games where he looked the same to my eye), I can't really believe that totally, but coaches and guys watching him in practice every day seeing something normally means it's real.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
Hollins made it clear AFTER AI's comments... Hollins is lucky if he keeps his job for this full season though. He has shown that he is a bad coach in every game so far this season.

Game 1, 38 minutes 18 points, 8 assist, 6-13 fg...
game 2, 47 minutes, 25 points, 5 assist, 9-19 fg
game 3, 37 minutes, 13 points, 7 assist, 3-8 fg
He took very few FG attempts in two of those games, he was still picking up assist and playing big minutes... the first two games were without melo too... i mean I guess you can say he was not playing as well in those 3 games... maybe he had a few bad practices(we talkin bout practice, not a game, but practice, practice)... but Don't you think if you trade a player so soon in to the season you can't come to the conclusion that he has regressed? especially when 5-6 months prior he was playing so well... it's very possible that they made the comments about him looking slow to justify the trade for the fans who fell in love with Iverson.Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
Talking to the media is not considered talking behind someone's back. Why do you think the media even exist? It's there job to get people to talk and to find a story. It always has happened, and it always will happen man. No matter what you and these "experts" think. AI is not the first or the last to talk about playing time and roles to the media. You guys make it out to be way worse than it really is.
I'm not trying to change your opinion, but I'm just letting you know your opinion is wrong.
Game one or game ten, injury or no injury... That's not the way you do things in business or in the NBA. Or at least that's not the way adults with wisdom and respect for other people do things. A non-child in this situation talks to his coach and settles it face to face.Comment

Why the hell does everyone from the coaches to the stray mutt in the back alley looking for scraps has to tiptoe around po' AI's feewins?

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
The point was the the coaches who see him every day and have no reason to chalk him up as "washed up" were noticing that he wasn't as quick as he was the prior season. Since his quickness is his main asset both on offense and defense, they felt it would be worth trading him away despite all the added revenue a player like AI brings to a franchise. Again, since then I haven't seen him play all that much and those first 3 games of 08-09 seemed fine, but the coaches thought otherwise based on his performance in training camp and practices/pre-season that year.
You may have a point about trying to make the trade "easier to swallow", but really, as someone who was here in Denver through the whole thing, everyone was basically excited to get Chauncey since he's a hometown guy and has such a championship pedigree. People of course didn't like seeing AI go because he's exciting to watch, but I don't think most people were against the trade or would need the Denver brass to massage the reality of the situation.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 11-06-2009, 06:52 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Guess who already sounds upset in Memphis
Yes, that is talking behind someone's back. Add to the fact that it's game ONE and he's coming off of an injury. It's not like the coach is benching a healthy 24 year old LeBron James just for the sake of team chemistry. Hollins was limiting the minutes of a 30 something injury-prone guard coming off a hamstring pull that kept him out for multiple weeks so he would not reinjure himself.
