Why is he selfish? For wanting a ring? Doesn't every athlete want to win? Isn't that the point of playing? To win? How is this selfish in anyway?

Payton is selfish for the fact that, their are other teams with that exception money that could have given it to him yet he chose to go the easy route and snub those other teams that have a shot at the title. and then next year, he'll get his money on top of it. it just doesn't sit right with me.

Payton and Malone have nothing to prove..... they have payed their dues, and nothing is etched in stone, they will still have to earn the ring, the competition is good and why would payton go to someone else and lose again... its pointless....

Re: Gary Payton agrees to be a Laker....

if all of this goes down, i can't wait to see the expressions on the faces of Sacramento and Dallas staff...
If San Antonio does get Kidd, then they could challenge the Lakers. I think that the Lakers could have taken the Spurs last year if Horry's shot in game 5 would have gone in. But I think it was pretty clear that the Spurs were the better team.

            Payton, Bryant, George, Malone, O'Neal
            vs.
            Kidd, Parker, Ginobli, Duncan, ????

I'd have to give it to L.A.

Although they are the big 4, I think if these deals go thru, and SA gets Zo', then LA and SA are clearly ahead of Sac and Dal.

I find it interesting how Dallas and Sac play similar games, and SA and LA do also. Yet SA and LA have won the past 5 championships and people are still screaming it'll be Sac's year next year.
