By all accounts, MJ isn't a great guy and he isn't clearly the best player in basketball. I don't like numbers being retired in any sport universally.

Bron is dead on as he said last night, if they dont make MJ the new NBA logo , then rise 23 in all arenas. The NHL did it for wayne gretzky, and MJ did a hell of alot more for the NBA.

This should of been done awhile ago. Wiz have never retired #23 , but no one else has ever wore it.

I would like to league the keep NBA Logo , because its the logo. But the should retire #23.

If it wasnt for Gretzky there would not be half of the teams in the U.S.
Gretkzy made hockey cool in the US when he went to LA.

So he goes from taking on great players number (MJ) to taking another's (mine), great. LOL, seriously though that was my number in football and baseball, I was 15 (1+5 = 6) in basketball, since they only allowed the numbers 0-5 to be used. Thanks for copying me LeBron, you better not ruin my lucky number.

You gotta understand, to most people in this country, if an american didn't do it, then it doesn't count. The arrogance in this country is unbelievable. I'm not saying all americans, but more do think and act this way, than those that aren't total idiots. People act like Jordan is a god, because he was good a GAME, it's nothing serious, just a game invented to pass time. The people most americans idolize is fricken insane, look up to someone who has done something that counts, not an adulterer, gambling addict, and overall *******. Just my .02

I have to disagree here. Yes Gretzky was at the head of the movement to improve the state of hockey in America hockey has never been more than the fourth sport in America at best. I also believe US winning the gold had a pretty big hand in it as well. Hockey never has nor will it ever be as big as the other three sports in America.

MJ on the other hand was the top man that moved the NBA into a global sport. Let's not foget MJ was at one point the most reconized face in the world. It doesn't get any bigger than that. The NBA is a global game now and MJ is one of if not the number one reason why. The impact he had in those 92 Olympics and his run during the 90's goes beyond anything Gretzky ever did.

That doesn't begin to go into the effect he had off the court when it comes to marketing and endorsements. MJ is the reason why guys like Tiger, LeBron, and Wade can make the money they can off the court/field. No player in any sport as ever had the impact Jordan has had when it comes to the economy.

MJ did a lot for everyone in all sports, ie Tiger , Bron , Manning , beckham and many more.

Agreed here.. but I still think is all to due about nothing really. I dont see a reason for Bron to give up his number other than personal preference

lebron can cut the crap with this being some sort of tribute. he's doing it to sell more jerseys. anybody that is going to buy a lebron #23 jersey, chances are, has bought it already. changing his number makes everyone with said jersey say "damn, my jerseys outdated, better by a 6" i dont care if he's doing that but lets call a spade a spade here
