Re: The Official "Where is LeBron going?" Thread

If LeBron James isn't sure he can win in Cleveland, President Barack Obama thinks there's an opportunity with his hometown Chicago Bulls.

"You know, like I said, I don't want to meddle," Obama told TNT. "I will say this: [Derrick] Rose, Joakim Noah it's a pretty good core. You know, you could see LeBron fitting in pretty well there."

Obama was interviewed about a number of basketball subjects by broadcaster Marv Albert on the White House basketball court. The interview will be shown Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.

James can become a free agent this summer, and his decision whether to leave the Cavaliers is one of the hottest topics in sports. Though he's never said he wants out of his native Ohio, there's speculation he'd consider it after the Cavaliers were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round by the Boston Celtics.

"I think that the most important thing for LeBron right now is actually to find a structure where he's got a coach that he respects and is working hard with teammates who care about him and if that's in Cleveland, then he should stay in Cleveland," Obama said. "If he doesn't feel like he can get it there, then someplace else."

Obama compared James' situation to the Bulls not winning until Michael Jordan had confidence in Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen and the rest of his teammates. Once that happened, Chicago won six NBA championships in the 1990s.

"It wasn't until you got that framework around you that you could be a champion," Obama said. "Same thing happened with Kobe [Bryant]. You know, I think that, first with Shaq [O'Neal] then later with [Pau] Gasol, you know, he's gotten that sense of a team around him and I think LeBron hasn't quite been able to get that yet. That's what he needs to find."

Other than Orlando, which traded Chris Webber, when's the last time a franchise had two No. 1 draft picks or could have had two No. 1 draft picks so close in age? And not just No. 1 picks, but All-Star types.

I don't know, if Chicago finds a way to sign LeBron James and work a sign and trade for Chris Bosh in which Deng is their biggest loss, that would be horrible for the game.

          Houston with Hakeem and Sampson.

Robinson and Duncan weren't really close in age. There have been a bunch of marginal players who have done it.

Iverson and Melo (not the #1 pick obviously, but clearly #1 overall prospect who probably goes #1 any other 2000s draft year) could conceivably count.

I don't think it would be bad for the game. In the NBA there will almost always be dominant teams due to the limited number of players on the court and the difference in quality between players. It's the only sport where one player for an entire team could be turned down (assuming no salary cap).

Your still going to have your entire cap on 3 players.

One Injury and your team goes from 6 championships to cap nightmare.

While I don't think that team would be quite the lock to be a dynasty that some think, I think you're a little over the top.

A team of Rose, Lebron, Bosh, and Noah can absorb an injury during the season with ease.

Now, if one of the first three gets a Livingston like injury and won't play again they'd be in trouble, but you can say that for any team.

I see it as a bigger extreme than when Boston added Ray Allen and KG to become a championship team. You have two No. 1 picks who play at the level of a No. 1 pick and are entering or are in their prime, plus a third superstar in Bosh.

I really don't want to see another decade dominated by the Bulls.

Things are perfect right now with at least four teams who have been atop the mountain for the last two seasons.

The only teams with realistic chances to win the title right now are the Lakers, Celtics, and Cavs, and that's how it's been the last three years (obviously not the Cavs in 2008).

This trade would just make it the Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls.

Huh? I think atop the mountain for most is winning a championship and there's no way four teams have done that in two seasons. If you're talking about the conference finals that still isn't really reliable considering you know who's going to make it to that point generally every year. The Bulls getting those three does nothing to the landscape of how perfect things are now. The west will still be the west regardless of what the Bulls do and Boston and Orlando will continue to be Boston and Orlando in the east with the Bulls taking the Cavs spot as the third favorite to get to that point every year. Nothing really changes with the move...in the essence you're talking anyway.

I think you have to throw the Magic in there, and remember the Cavaliers were the closest to beating the Celtics in 2008. So don't let that 45-37 record fool you. (I wondered if that 45-win Cavs team could beat this 61-win Cavs team ... in the playoffs)

It's wide open. Can you really says it's that wide open in the East if all those guys are on the Bulls? It'd really take the Lakers to test them, but I can't see Orlando or Boston hanging with that kind of Chicago team.

According to everyone that's been poo pooing the Chicago destination, yes it could be said it's wide open. If the NBA and sports in general have taught us anything over the past few years, it's that the games are PLAYED for a reason.

The Magic were never beating a healthy Lakers or Celtics team. So far they're 1-7 against those two and 4-3 against a Celtics team missing their 1b.

Yep they are, and teams with an overabundance of talent typically rise to the top. No one outside Chicago wants to see the Bulls with Rose, James and Bosh. Maybe two, but not three.
