Stop it, LeBron brought that upon himself. You knew fans were going to react that way. Not saying it's right, but it's not really hate on their part, more disappointment that their prospects of winning a championship instantly went out the window.

Can some of you stop pretending that 'The Decision' wasn't that big of a deal?? Put yourself in their shoes just for a minute.

If people were so irate about the Decision, they wouldn't have tuned into the show IMO. This isn't some nobody cares who Jodie Meeks signs with, this was LeBron James we were talking about. What bigger name could you possibly think of be in that situation within the past 20 years? 9.95 million people tuned into the show. This article says it was the third most watched program of that year.... Behind the Super Bowl (of course) and some icarly episode lmao. Had he said he was going back to Cleveland, this would be no issue.

        That's not the point.

LeBron KNEW he wasn't going to go back to Cleveland. Everyone knew it the second he ripped off his jersey after Game 6 in Boston.

He should've ousted them from the start without stringing them along and he STILL could've had 'The Decision'.

Oh that I definitely agree with, I too thought that when I saw the jersey come off (such a drama queen lol). In his mind, I wonder if he thought telling them would've had the information leaked, thus ruining the point of the show. If that might've been the case than that's just weird thinking but I know I personally wouldn't have had that same immediate reaction when hearing his decision if I would've saw on twitter, LeBron informs Cleveland he's not going back.

That game is the reason I stopped being a Cavs fan after a great number of years. Killed me to see a team, not just Lebron quit. My wife, who is as ignorant as they come in regards to the game of basketball, was disgusted with their effort that game.

He knew he was gone. He didn't need to rub it in the face of the fans that supported them from Day 1, and praised him like he was the second coming.

It's the same kind of reach with his "coward" comment. You're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill here.

Also, I don't get the need to try to put accountability on how OTHER people feel. You say you don't care about Gilbert or Riley's words here so you can't possibly understand the people that do care about one or the other. Considering that, how do you know they'd have the same feeling about both? You're not looking at the situation the same as they are (proven by it effecting you differently) so you have no idea what that trigger was that had them react how they did. Hell, some people jumped on Gilbert bc his letter was in Comic Sans.
I don't really see that. Tossing a "this is hard" in front of a statement like that doesn't really make it much better in my eyes. But I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

It's just funny to me that four years later we're still getting people making a big deal out of that letter as if Dan Gilbert dropped an N-bomb on LeBron and when we had this discussion a few weeks ago the fact that he was calling LeBron cowardly in it was cited as a specific reason why the letter was so bad and now here we are with this and nothing. I can drop it because it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but that's just funny to me.

Riles saying the great teams lose and have to fight through it is nowhere in the same league as what that clown Gilbert said. His childish response to LeBron dumping his sorry management and leaving for Miami is pathetic.

                    Just for reference..here it is.

Did you guys see Windhorst saying this morning that Riley let out that LeBron's wife is expecting when LeBron was trying to keep that under wraps right now? Pretty sure Riley didn't do it on purpose, but does anybody think that might affect LeBron's decision?

Letter isnt nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It was stupid, but you would think he was ranting against the Emancipation Proclamation the way some people talk about it

I'm not defending anyone who hammered Gilbert for the letter. Like you, I'm ignorant to the reason they had such strong reaction to it one way or the other. Personally I understood his emotion, thought it was unprofessional if not slightly predictable (considering what we know of him) and took the whole thing as kind of funny.

My point to you is that, like me, you can't know what triggered any of these people to react the way they did to the letter... because you didn't react that way. It'd be wrong to assume that they all did bc he said "coward" so now since Riley said "coward" they should all still be up in arms. That doesn't make sense. If that's how you feel personally, that's cool, express it, some may agree, some may not. But you don't... you said you don't care. How can you speak for other people?

It wasn't that bad... which makes the comparison between it and what Riley said that much worse imo. I think there's a reason not many batted an eye at what Riley said. There was nothing there unless you're really searching for it.

That's the thing about these "some people said this back then" arguments...it's not like we're directly referencing any one, or anyone is being quoted...so it takes on a (usually exaggerated) life of it's own....

This is what happens when time passes by.

Because when that letter came out, you had people applauding Gilbert for writing it, even if it did sound silly.
