OTHERS are saying things like Rondo has made them a defensive team. Hell, just read every single post Jukeman makes in his thread. It's more than just him but there you go. My point to you is that I agree with your assessment of Rondo (perfect fit for the Celtics and very good player) and most others do as well. OTHERS are overrating them and we are replying to them. For some reason, you look at our replies and determine that we're throwing Rondo under the bus and calling him horrible. That couldn't be further from the truth.

And trust me, the core of my basketball knowledge starts with defense. I would never undervalue a player defensively. Honestly, I think Rondo's value comes more in his heart, decision making and hustle than his defense (the media likes to group those things together). He's a good defender, not a "shut down" defender. What's important is he's a GREAT PG on both ends of the court for the Celtics as they are currently built. Nobody is denying that.

No, most of the year he has not been the best player on the Celtics. That's just like saying Gasol has been the best player on the Lakers this post season. If you believe that then you're not really understanding what's going on out there.

And that last part is hilarious. So you didn't say "great" defender but you said he and Perkins were the "best" defenders on the Celtics. You also said the Celtics D is basically built around the guy. I guess the Celtics are a great defensive team, but the "best" defenders on that team aren't considered great. Sorry for making that incredible leap in understanding your logic.

Just read through the thread and it's just a bunch of mix ups, jeebs.

Here's your first post I replied to...

Rondo best point because he the best on the most important part of the floor.....The defensive one...He fits the Celtics team conpcet. Which is know for its defense. The only guys from that list that might fit here is CP3. But even then. He just doesn't rebound like Rondo can. Rondo doesn't need to score a bunch of points. He makes his pay check off of effort plays. Rebounds, Steals, and Defense (you actually could put those under each other) Is what makes him the best. What point guard you know that can completely shut down the other teams PG? I'm not talking about scoring. I'm talking the little things people don't notice like Ball Denying the opponents point guard that he can't even set-up the offense.

The only thing I disagree with is talking about him being a better rebounder than CP3 (because he's really not). He's also not a better defender than CP3... but we're talking about CP3 here, not some average PG.

As a few others have said, if you are going to ask how Rondo would do without "the big three," you should also ask how they would do without Rondo. I recall two years ago when the Big Three came to Boston that all the talk was how badly the Celtics needed a Point Guard and if they should look to make a trade to pick someone up. After three season we have a thread talking about where Rondo ranks against the best PGs in the NBA.

I am no Basketball expert, but when I watch Rondo I am WOWed. He plays with determination. He fights for everything and is a leader [on a team of leaders.]

There is an old addage, great players make other players great. I don't know how many people here watch Football, but Joe Montana won two Superbowls before Jerry Rice was drafted... once Montana and Rice hooked up, they were nearly unstoppable. Again, I'm no NBA expert, so correct me if I am wrong, but no matter how great Jordan is, it took Pippen and Rodman to make the Bulls elite. A great player plays great, but great teams win championships. This is why it is always difficult to judge a single great player in a team sport. There are too many factors. Would the Bulls have won thier rings if Phil Jackson wasn't thier coach? Would Jackson have those rings if it weren't for players like MJ?

my response to that is to replace each guy with an average player at his position and see where the loss is the worst.

i'll leave kendrick perkins out, obviously, because he basically is an average nba center, albeit better defensively than normal, but less than average on offense, so he evens out.

i'll try to think of average players at the position off the top of my head, so it's not a science.

point guard - switch from rondo to, say...kirk hinrich.
shooting guard - switch from ray allen to, oh...john salmons.
small forward - switch from paul pierce to, hmm...corey maggette.
power forward - switch from kevin garnett to...troy murphy.

seems very easy to me.
