Could Mario Chalmers be the new Rondo?

When the big three came together in Boston everyone was saying that they don't think rondo was ready for that type of pressure but he proved everyone wrong. So can chalmers be the new rondo??

He doesn't have to be. It's two totally different situations. Boston didnt have people that could create there own shot like Miami does. He'll have the Ball less than Rondo.

Miami is NOT the "new" Boston. I see too many folks comparing the two. Rondo vs. Chalmers? Nah.

No. He probably won't start. But LeBron can be the new Magic Johnson.

Chalmers will never be Rondo. I think the development of Rajon Rondo has surpassed anyone's wildest dreams

I think he'll be the starting point guard but they'll have to bring in someone to play center.

I figured it would be LeBron at point, with Mike Miller at small forward. We'll see.

If Mario can keep those SPG numbers up the fast break game in MIA will be off the chain!

He doesn't have to be Rondo. All he has to do is work on hitting that open 3 and maintaining that level of D.

My vote is no he's not the next Rondo. But he can still carve out a nice career and be "Mario Chalmers: unsung x-factor"

Chalmers is a solid defender and he can drive the lane effectively at times, but he won't get the ball in hands very much with the teammates he now has.

Mario's a great player but will never play at the level Rondo can.

No. Chalmers is what he is. Rondo was practically a rookie as he was behind Telfair & Delonte the year before and no one knew what to expect.

Who knows really? This could take his game to new heights.....we just dont know. Maybe not Rondo's level....but I definitely expect him to improve..

Let the 08 Rondo thread tell it....theres no way the Celtics could go deep in the playoffs with him lol..

This is what I mean, who knew how good rondo was until the big 3 was assemble. Same thing might happen to Mario and I think he actually has a jumper

People who heard of Rondo before the NBA...

Chalmers is a scorer...Only way he will make a name for his self is by hitting big shots and alot of 3's...

Basically if he's mention as a top 5 PG..we would have a new Billups...

First off Boston's situation is much different from Miami's. Despite Boston's Big 3 they still needed a distributing PG and Ray Ray and KG aren't ball-dominant perimeter players like LBJ and Wade. Even Pierce isn't on there level in terms of how often he has the ball in his hands.

I don't think Chalmers will even start and if he does he'll still be playing typical backup PG minutes. As Juke said, Chalmers isn't even a similar type of PG as Rondo is. Plus with Wade and LBJ having the ball so much I don't see any chance that he's more than an average role player.
