Re: Could Mario Chalmers be the new Rondo?
First off Boston's situation is much different from Miami's. Despite Boston's Big 3 they still needed a distributing PG and Ray Ray and KG aren't ball-dominant perimeter players like LBJ and Wade. Even Pierce isn't on there level in terms of how often he has the ball in his hands.
I don't think Chalmers will even start and if he does he'll still be playing typical backup PG minutes. As Juke said, Chalmers isn't even a similar type of PG as Rondo is. Plus with Wade and LBJ having the ball so much I don't see any chance that he's more than an average role player.Comment

Re: Could Mario Chalmers be the new Rondo?
Chalmers has a great opportunity to become Derek Fisher.
Their games are pretty similar already, in fact at this stage I'd say Chalmers is ahead of Fisher at the same career point. He should just dedicate himself to defense and continue to develop his spot up shooting.Comment

Re: Could Mario chalmers be the new Rondo????
Mario is a run of the mill NBA PG. He is above average at D, but average at everything else.
He has a special opportunity to look good on this team by being the 4th option and hitting down open looks and making simple plays.Comment

5th option after the signing of Miller. I think Fisher is a great comparison to his likely career path... maybe Bowen? He needs to just focus on hitting open shots. He could be what we thought Gibson was going to turn into.Comment

Re: Could Mario chalmers be the new Rondo????
I was thinking 4th option since there's probably going to be a C or PF (Haslem?) starting that would be the 5th. I see MM as a 6th man, but who knows with that lineup they have. Chalmers may not even start since Wade and LeBron would be primary ballhandlersComment

Re: Could Mario chalmers be the new Rondo????
The thing about Rondo (as ehh mentioned) is his skill set fit perfectly with the "Big 3" while Chalmers isn't the same type of player, and the Heat don't need him to be. I think it'd make more sense to actually have him as a spark plug off the bench but it also depends on who else they add. My guess is whatever C they get will be for mostly defense so I don't really consider that a scoring option. Haslem deserves more credit as a scorer than that but I don't think he's the C they need either. He's a huge addition to that group and can hit that short jumper but not enough alone for what they need out of the position.Comment

Re: Could Mario Chalmers be the new Rondo?
Chalmers is going to have a lot of chances to hit important shots. The opportunity is there to carve that Fisheresque niche out for himself.
Sturdy D and clutch shots. He's already hit one of the biggest shots in NCAA history.Comment

Re: Could Mario Chalmers be the new Rondo?
my guess is that the starting 5 will be
PG LeBron James
SG Dwayne Wade
SF Mike Miller
PF Chris Bosh
C Big Z (If he really is signing with them)Comment

With Chalmer, Haslem, Howard and rookies coming off the bench. It's starting to look like a team now.Comment
