I believe your point was that a team never had 3 of the top players in the game when in the early 80's the Lakers did in fact have 3 top guys on their team, and it showed winning a few titles... Also I think the celtics are looked differently because they were not all FA's at the same time....

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Case still stands, never have the two of the top three and three out of the top 8 players joined one another via free agency in their primes. That is what has happened with the Heat, which is different than any other time in NBA history. The only other time a reigning MVP has changed addresses in the offseason was Moses Malone. Everything after that automatically makes this a different and unique situation.Comment

Unique to the sport at least..... as Far as Free Agents go....Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
No, my point was that this situation is unique. There are many reasons that it is unique--the age of the players, an MVP joining two other All Stars in their prime, everyone being free agents and so on.
Aside from being better, their help was infinitely better than Miami's.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Kareem played 7 years with Magic where he averaged 20 or more points per game. Kareem and Magic had 5 seasons where both made an All NBA team, 9 years where they were both All Stars, 3 years where both finished in the top 5 of MVP voting, and in Magic's rookie year Kareem won the MVP and Magic won the Finals MVP.
Again, why does it matter that they weren't in their primes when they were still better than Lebron and Wade?
Aside from being better, their help was infinitely better than Miami's.
What I said is that nothing like this has ever happened before, and it's not even close. Then KDRE said that the Lakers were close in the 80s. Close in talent? Overall, they were probably superior in talent, but the circumstances were very different, which was what I was saying. The Lakers drafted Magic while they already had a veteran Kareem. They drafted Worthy while they had the two others. The circumstances are different.
If we were looking for two players in their primes that were arguably both on the top two or three or four in the league, there are plenty better examples than Kareem and Magic. so clearly that's not what I'm saying.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
I still think too much is being made of Paul's "demands". He would go alot of places to get out of NO. Indiana, Memphis, Milwaukee, etc. just to get out of that organization/ownership."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Welp. Sounds like the subject of trading him never came out of CP3's mouth and he "liked what they said about the direction the team is headed".
I'd post a link but...it's all twitter as of this posting and I don't post links to twitter. That's like going to the movies to see a commercial about a movie.Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
Looks CP3 had a good meeting with Management..
Via Twitter...
Paul just tweeted:
“The meeting went well. It was great to get an opportunity to sit down with Coach Williams, President Weber and our new General Manager Dell Demps. I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team. I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come.”Comment

Re: Chris Paul wants out?
All in due time, I imagine.
We can't do jack with free agency. That leaves only one option. And it's been said we have a few non-CP3 related trade offers on the table.
Logic says Collison is the main attractive piece we can dangle. But if we trade Collison, we're putting some significant eggs in CP3's basket. Pretty sure that was the main reason for this meeting. To get CP3's commitment to New Orleans and to sell them on what they were planning. I'd hate to imagine a scenario where we're PGless in two years.Comment
