So says you. At 38 you know that Kareem isn't going to be playing for more than two or three more years. Obviously, Lebron, Wade and Bosh are in a different place being more than a decade younger than him apiece. This is a big part of the reason the Celtics is looked at differently, besides the fact that those were trades. Being in or near their early thirties, people knew that the window for the C's to get it together and win a couple of championships was very small before they started to decline.

Kareem was a historically great 38 year old, but he was no longer a top two or three player in the NBA at that time and Worthy was also not considered top 2 or 3 at his position.
I believe your point was that a team never had 3 of the top players in the game when in the early 80's the Lakers did in fact have 3 top guys on their team, and it showed winning a few titles... Also I think the celtics are looked differently because they were not all FA's at the same time....

Top Center in the Category and still in the top 5 past his "prime"
I don't know why you're quoting "prime" since in his prime he averaged many more points and rebounds at various times during his actual prime. If Kareem was in his prime while Worthy was on the Lakers, history would be different, hence the situation is different.

Case still stands, never have the two of the top three and three out of the top 8 players joined one another via free agency in their primes. That is what has happened with the Heat, which is different than any other time in NBA history. The only other time a reigning MVP has changed addresses in the offseason was Moses Malone. Everything after that automatically makes this a different and unique situation.

No, my point was that this situation is unique. There are many reasons that it is unique--the age of the players, an MVP joining two other All Stars in their prime, everyone being free agents and so on.

Kareem played 7 years with Magic where he averaged 20 or more points per game. Kareem and Magic had 5 seasons where both made an All NBA team, 9 years where they were both All Stars, 3 years where both finished in the top 5 of MVP voting, and in Magic's rookie year Kareem won the MVP and Magic won the Finals MVP.

Again, why does it matter that they weren't in their primes when they were still better than Lebron and Wade?

Aside from being better, their help was infinitely better than Miami's.

Because my argument is not that this is the greatest team ever assembled. I'm not arguing against Kareem's greatness. He's my favorite center of all time.

What I said is that nothing like this has ever happened before, and it's not even close. Then KDRE said that the Lakers were close in the 80s. Close in talent? Overall, they were probably superior in talent, but the circumstances were very different, which was what I was saying. The Lakers drafted Magic while they already had a veteran Kareem. They drafted Worthy while they had the two others. The circumstances are different.

If we were looking for two players in their primes that were arguably both on the top two or three or four in the league, there are plenty better examples than Kareem and Magic. so clearly that's not what I'm saying.

I'm so sick of this clown.
I get the vibe "keeping the west competitive" is some bull**** cover Bron is feeding us. Especially, if CP3 wants to be in Orlando more than anywhere else, or form a "Super 3" in NYC.

Gotta be. There's no way he would say something so stupid otherwise.

I still think too much is being made of Paul's "demands". He would go alot of places to get out of NO. Indiana, Memphis, Milwaukee, etc. just to get out of that organization/ownership.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

                    Re: Chris Paul wants out?

Welp. Sounds like the subject of trading him never came out of CP3's mouth and he "liked what they said about the direction the team is headed".

I'd post a link but...it's all twitter as of this posting and I don't post links to twitter. That's like going to the movies to see a commercial about a movie.

Looks CP3 had a good meeting with Management..

                      Via Twitter...

                      Paul just tweeted:

“The meeting went well. It was great to get an opportunity to sit down with Coach Williams, President Weber and our new General Manager Dell Demps. I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team. I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come.”

All in due time, I imagine.

We can't do jack with free agency. That leaves only one option. And it's been said we have a few non-CP3 related trade offers on the table.

Logic says Collison is the main attractive piece we can dangle. But if we trade Collison, we're putting some significant eggs in CP3's basket. Pretty sure that was the main reason for this meeting. To get CP3's commitment to New Orleans and to sell them on what they were planning. I'd hate to imagine a scenario where we're PGless in two years.
