Kobe Bryant : Is age a factor?

Saw this thread over at the 2kSports forums so figured I'd bring it up . ( I'm a rookie, don't if this is a flame post or w.e ) At what age do you think Kobe will retire?

Re: Kobe Bryant : Is age a factor?

    Whenever he wants

He'll be a first team All NBA guy for the next two seasons, then probably drift into 20 PPG territory for 2 seasons, but he's a good enough shooter, stays in good enough shape, and is beloved by the Lakers that he could be a starter for the next 8 or so years as long as he's willing to drift into second, third, and maybe fourth option territory.

The biggest question mark with Kobe is how Phil's successor will handle Kobe, Pau, and Bynum. While Phil's been given more talent than any coach, his ability to manage Jordan, Pippin, Kobe, and Shaq has been amazing. If he was still coaching I could see him managing Kobe into moving from a 30 PPG guy to a 25 to a 20 to a 15, but he'll be retiring after this year. After this year is a huge mystery. I'd like to think Kobe is mature enough to realize his limitations, but I wouldn't be shocked if he went the Iverson route of believing he was still a top player at 35+.

Who knows, Kobe seems to be so competitive and obsessed with the game of basketball that I think he'll hang around for a long time as a role player and eventually a scrub. I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe stays in the league for another 8-10 years or pulls a retire/unretire like other legends have.

I would guess 5-7 years. He has a lot of mileage. That will eventually catch up with anyone, and once it does it goes downhill rather quickly.

the thing with kobe is he can absolutely destroy you offensively without using too much athleticism, and he's getting his post up game. He'll average 24 or above for the next four year, and then hover above 20 ppg until he retires.

He'll stick around to torture me, guaranteed.

            I'd say 5 more years.

Seeing as how he can play effectively in the post while being able to make any shot on the court consitently I say he will stick around for a longgg time especially given how competitive he is.

Another scope on the knee this off season, fingers looking like linguine, tough to see him lasting more than five years before his body says "no mas"

I give him 4 more years of being a worthwhile player... then it's Finley/Stackhouse for the last two years time.

I think he has 2-3 more years left of being the best player on a championship caliber roster. As far as being a contributer/rotation guy, I don't know. Maybe 3-4 additional years. Depends on his ego. I'm not sure you can un-alphamale a dude.

I think he will retire after he wins 2 more titles.

Kobe has 4 more years of great to good play left in him. He could pull a Shaq and play 4 or 5 years past his prime, but that seems unlikely. I think Kobe's competitive drive to be the very best will only allow him to play as long as his body holds up. He's got a ton of mileage on his body already and I don't believe it can withstand more the 4 years of the NBA grind. We'll see.

i would hate to see kobe stick around until they kicked him out of the league. We never really had to watch Jordan diminish in this way. sure he came back and was a bum for the wizards but he was a side show then. he came back to sell tickets. we knew he wouldn't be very good. however, we were not forced to watch his game degrade to crap.

my pop used to tell me how pitiful Dr J looked in his last years in the league. still trying to do the things he did as a younger man and he just couldn't pull it off.

i think kobe looked really slow this season. the end is near

Jordan was far from a bum on the Wizards. He just wasn't nearly as athletic as he was in his prime.
