Apparently for the Nets to get Melo, Denver wants 5 first round picks as part of a package. So the Nets are apparently deciding to back off from a Melo trade.

While there is no certainty that the players selected with those picks would be future franchise type players nor superstars, I would pass ... DEN thinks it has the leverage to obtain whatever they want ... so let them go and try to get what they demand elsewhere ... It is ridiculous.

I am forseen it ... mad fans burning Nuggets shirts and rioting ... because the front office knew that he was gone and did nothing to try and lessen the effect.

In cases such as this, you go with easing your current and future financial situation and with adding young lowcost talents to build upon ... they are pushing themselves against the sword by self willingly be in a LBJ-Cavs situation ... to have such a situation produced by a player is lame, but to have it caused by the management is unexcusable, specially when you were offered a worthy alternative.

according to other sources looks like the nets are starting realize carmelo doesn't want ot be a net

The Nets have been chasing Anthony for months but according to sources, New Jersey has grown "sick of the whole charade" and have "backed away."

                    It's sounding like that PPM

Woj fleshes out the rumours a bit:

For now, the Nuggets want New Jersey to take Al Harrington and Renaldo Balkman as part of a package for Anthony, but they want the Nets to find another team for Troy Murphy and his $12 million expiring contract, and that’s proved fruitless so far. The Nuggets would love a package that includes New Jersey’s rookie forward Derrick Favors and Portland forward Nicolas Batum, but Blazers GM Rich Cho has shown no inclination to include him in a deal.

Cleveland is part of the talks because of its $14.5 million trade exception, and one rival front-office executive says, “they want [a lot] for it.”

The Nets would have to move Devin Harris to a third team as part of a bigger deal, but league sources say they’ve had trouble finding an arrangement where they could get a quality point guard in return. Andre Miller has been discussed, but that probably isn’t happening without Batum as part of a bigger deal.

                      Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga

I said before that they(mainly Prokhorov)were wasting their time chasing someone that obviously didn't want to be here.

But at the sametime, he(Melo)needs to realize that he's not going to get it both ways in that he's gonna get his money AND not go to a gutted out team so he needs to decide what's important more to him(which he's already made public a few times anyway).

                        Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga

The reason behind NJ was still trying to get him despite his preferred destination, is exactly the reason pack exposed ... he wants the money.

Assuming things ... that Anthony agrees to an extendsion and that DEN indeed doesnt want to get Troy ... this trade could become a reality (sorry for how it is presented):

                        1. NJ

                        gives: Harris & Outlaw & 2012 HOU first (CLE) + Murphy & 2013 second r pick (POR) + Favors & James & 2011 NJ first & 2012 GS first picks (DEN)

gets: Anthony & Harrington & Balkman (DEN) + Miller (POR) + Powe (CLE)

                        Rotation:
                        Miller / Morrow / Anthony / Harrington / Lopez
                        Farmar / Vujacic / Balkman / Humphries / Petro / Powe / Uzoh

They obtain their superstar and round him with a more than competitive team.

                        2. DEN

gives: Anthony & Harrington & Balkman (NJ) + Carter (Cut)

gets: Favor & James & 2011 NJ first & 2012 GS first picks (NJ) + Williams & Cunningham (POR) + Sessions & 13$ TPE (CLE)

                        Rotation:
                        Lawson & Billups & Affalo & Favor & Nene
                        Sessions & Smith & Forbes & Cunningham & Andersen & James & Williams

They obtain huge financial flexibility, talented youngs and first picks. To me, by much, the best package for a superstar in the history of the league.

                        3. POR

gives: Williams & Cunningham (DEN) + Miller (NJ) + Oden & Camby (CLE)

gets: Williams & Jamison (CLE) + Murphy & 2013 second r pick (NJ)

                        Rotation:
                        Williams & Mathews & Batum & Jamison & Aldridge
                        Mills & Fernandez & Babbit & Murphy & Pryzbilla & Johnson & (Roy)

They obtain productive players and round their bench, choosing fittable players over young talent. Also an amazing scoring punch to replace the injured Roy. They also adcquire a good expiring, a pick and move away from the Oden era.

                        4. CLE

gives: Sessions & 13$ TPE (DEN) + Williams & Jamison (POR) + Powe (NJ)

gets: Harris & Outlaw & 2012 HOU first (NJ) + Camby & Oden (POR)

                        Rotation:
                        Harris & Parker & Outlaw & Varejao & Camby
                        Gibson & Gee & Moon & Hickson & Hollins & Samuels & Graham

While they give almost all their TPE, they obtain a better/younger PG, a stablished SF, a productive veteran C, a first pick and gamble on a injury prone but talented ex first pick C, that could be resigned at a low cost and offer a low risk/high reward if healthy. Camby would likely retire after this season, granting them a significant capspace along all their other expirings.

Nuggets wanting five picks is hilarious, the trade deadline is less than two months away if anybody should be sweating it should be Denver. The Nets should just back out and watch Carmelo walk to the Knicks the real losers imo would be the Nuggets for waiting too long.

Obviously it's a ridiculous request, but what do the Nuggets have to lose. It's not like the Nets are going to turn around and trade for Kevin Durant instead. The Nets offer will still be there at the deadline. Maybe by then they can get other teams involved looking for a rental, or Melo will give in and be willing to go to other places. I think the option for them to get something for him will be there right up until the deadline.

Carmelo Anthony's army of leakers and whisperers put out the word that the Nuggets' franchise player and three-time All Star wants out of Denver, looking for a combo of superstars like Miami put together to play alongside for the next few years. Of course, when asked, 'Melo says he's just playing and isn't thinking about the future, which is absurd on its face, as he's left a $65 million extension on the table for months (and just, again, told the Nuggets last week that he had no intention of re-signing in Denver, according to a source.)
