The Pistons continue to say that Rip being benched has nothing to do with a trade, but I dont believe that at all.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
The biggest hurdle: Anthony himself. The deal seems close though.
Nuggets grant Nets permission to speak with Anthony
A league source said Sunday that the Denver Nuggets have granted the New Jersey Nets permission to speak directly with Carmelo Anthony about the proposed trade that would send Anthony to New Jersey, and about potentially signing the three-year extension that the Nets insist Anthony agree to before they agree to make the deal.
Anthony has made it clear that he would like to be traded to the Knicks. But the Nets have been in the lead for weeks now, because of their unique ability at the moment to give the Nuggets a package of young players and draft picks Denver wants. The Nets have offered to send first-round pick Derrick Favors, two draft picks and other players to Denver for Anthony and guard Chauncey Billups, with guard Rip Hamilton coming from Detroit to Jersey in exchange for forward Troy Murphy.
Under normal rules, direct contact with Anthony by Nets officials, up to and including majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov, would be tampering. But if Denver gives New Jersey permission to contact Anthony, the Nets can make their sales pitch to Anthony about their team without being subject to penalties. Prohkorov, according to league sources, believes he can sell Anthony on the Nets if he can get in front of him.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Is this over yet.
I guess I am a glutton for punishment cause i read all the latest updates.
Would he REALLY go to NJ?
Really?
man.
Its the Nets.
If he does go there I would imagine he would have serious regrets at some point early on.
Especially if the Knicks make noise.
Plus, The Nets arent making the playoffs. The Nuggets and Knicks probably would.
Yes neither of them have a shot at Beating LA, Boston or Miami, but the Nets wont even make the dance.
I'd think its either NY or Stay with Denver the rest of the way and see what u can do in the playoffs.
For money, he'd give up The Mecca, and a playoff run this year.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Darn, he seems as good as gone then.
He's also played awful the past two games... maybe he's checked out already.
Seems like there will be a deal within the week. Knicks should not do a damn thing man. Let NJ take a chance that Melo will only be a rental and let them decimate their team.
Sign Melo in the Summer. If you're NY, I just don't know if you risk parting with your young talent to reel him in. Although it is a tough decision, just from a logical perspective, I really don't see Melo saying 'yes, a combo of me, Billups/RIP/Brook will get us a title'. I mean there's just no chance even if they added more pieces to that.
Edit:
Carmelo Expresses No Interest In Meeting With Nets
Jan 17, 2011 12:37 AM EST
In a post-game interview on Sunday night, Carmelo Anthony expressed no interest in meeting with New Jersey's top officials, who want a face-to-face discussion with Anthony to convince him to sign a contract extension with the Nets.
Anthony said contact with the Nets should be made by Denver's front office.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Probably the same interview posted above:
"I can't talk to them people," Anthony said after scoring 12 points on 5-for-17 shooting and sitting most of the fourth quarter in Denver's 110-97 loss to San Antonio. "The Denver Nuggets still pay me. I can't talk to nobody."
When informed that the the Nuggets, who have been pushing to trade Anthony to New Jersey for nearly four months, evidently have given permission to the Nets, Anthony said, "I haven't talked to nobody -- Masai or Josh or any other teams. So for that speculation to be going around out there like that, that’s false."
Asked what his desire is, Anthony said, "I don’t want to talk to nobody. I let the front office handle that type of stuff. It ain't my job to be talking to New Jersey, New York, the Lakers, Dallas, no one. That’s not my job to do."
"I still won’t step into something like that," Anthony said. "I’ve seen a lot of people go through that and for me to sit here and say that I want to talk to them or Masai and Josh gave them permission to talk to me, I think that’s false. If that was the case, then I'm pretty sure I would've gotten a phone call from Masai or Josh about that."
"Y’all have to ask Masai that because me personally, I don’t think he gave anyone permission to talk to me about anything."

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Seems like Melo is dying to be in NY. Tricky thing is that NY has a couple of guys like Chandler and Gallo and either one could be a legit starter in that SF role. I don't think the Knicks will blow their team up to get Anthony because they don't have a huge hole in their roster, but any time you have a chance to get a player of that caliber you do it... Time will tell but I'd be shocked if Anthony wasn't moved by the deadline with a deal in place with his new team.Originally Posted by Briman123

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
@STEIN_LINE_HQ NBA does NOT see this as tampering in any way if Nuggets give Nets permission to speak w/Melo. Trade with NJN, remember, is one DEN wants about an hour ago
At this point things have just gotten too far gone. I would hate to be a Denver Nugget fan right now.
All I can say is don't go to NJ Melo. Please don't do that, you will not ever get a title. If they want to trade for you and use you as a rental and set their franchise back, so be it. But go to NY if you're going leave Denver.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Media madness man
The look in Melo's eyes tonight, his mind was definitely not at the game
I wish this would end but im definitely tired of hearing about NJ
The guy doesnt care to play for them at all, yet someone is making it a priority to continue to push thisComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
IMO I don't think this is too bad from a Nuggets' fan perspective. Granted, you're losing Anthony this year one way or another. And that stinks but it happens. But it's not like Cleveland, hopefully. You don't get embarassed, and you don't instantly become the worst team in the league. You still have some young talent on the roster and you will be getting something (maybe a lot, but at least something) in return to get you on the fast track to a new starting 5.
Lawson, Nene, maybe some combination of Favors/draft picks/Wilson Chandler/Gallo/Toney Douglas.. After the next lottery they could be in respectable shape..Originally Posted by Briman123

Now your franchise player is basically for sure gone when all the talent is still there to make more runs at it.
From my understanding it seems like Melo is upset with the direction of the upper management in terms of personnel. Not sure if that's a valid reason to want out, but it is what it is.
And nothing will ever compare to the LeBron situation. That was on an entirely different level.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
I might risk myself of been marked as an insensible ... I do understand what it is in play from Melos part, but the way he has handled "on court" all these stuff, is really making me wonder if he is a franchise type player at all ... at least mentally.
He owe it to the sport, to the league, to his fan and to his profesionalism to recompose and play as he should or always has ... it is not a situation that has just unfold recently, therefor having an understandable shocking effect, this "drama" has been since early in the season ... even earlier, since he decided not to sign the extention.
To me, the way Melo is playing now, is worse to DEN than (CLE) whatever negative effect resulted from LBJ decission ... I mean, it is clear that both teams would be left without their corner stone ... but at least LBJ effects (leaving aside the conjetures of last year playoffs) were off court.
Seriously, after watching DEN last 5 games (even their win too), it seems like he is on the court just to fill a space ... If I were DEN, I would sit him (like DET does to Hamilton) until a trade is worked out, be it with NJ-NY-whoever.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
It's like Melo is to young/dumb in the head to put the grips on his agent about this.
Melo knows exactly where he wants to play and he's known it all along.
If he wanted to be a Net, this trade and extension would've been pencils down a long time ago.
There's a video from awhile back on wshh where a reporter met Melo after a game in the locker room and said it's all done...you've been traded to the Nets. Melo looked like he wanted to deck the guy.
If the Nuggets FO really just wanted to get something for Melo...they would've moved him OR they would entertain trade proposals from the Knicks.
Like you said Dre, the Nuggets are trying to pimp NJ. Rose is trying to get top $$$. They can't get both unless Melo agrees to skip his championship chase and join the Nets, knowing full well he'll never sniff a 'chip if he agrees to play with them.
If it's not about money...he stays put and rides with his team to the playoffs. He has it in his power to tell his agent that...but he hasn't.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
I really doubt Denver is trying to "pimp NJ" at this point or any point during this entire thing.
The point still remains that NJ does not want Melo as a rental, "reports" say the owner is interested in that, and by logic you don't trade away half your team for a rental. Melo won't sign an extension with NJ. Result: no trade to NJ.
So stop trying to point fingers at Denver's front office.
Denver at this point is definitely screwed. Nobody else has a chance to get Melo to sign except for the Knicks.
So NY and Melo basically hold the cards right now.Comment

That point aside they were definitely trying to move the kitchen sink, im sorry but they were. Its not about whos at fault here
NY doesnt need to be desperate right now, and theyre a fun team to watch, but come playoff time they'll need another threat on the floor. Maybe they wont care this year since they can afford to wait but this entire thing is a mess right now all overComment
