Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread

I think NJ could obtain a relevant player with one of the assets they offered for Melo ... to me is better to go for a proven player than bet on the odds of a pick and on the chances of that pick bringing a Griffin type player.

Then again, this is all about Melo ... I hope he can recompose his head and play as he used to for the rest of the season. Be it on DEN or NY.

the man only wants to play for NY. period.

so you take Galinari, curry, a draft pick, a bottle of Scotch and you move on.

        Right now, No.

Melo(if), Stat and friends should be able to attract another third leg to help in the cause, whether it CP3 or a defensive interior player.

Championships hard to come by for the entire League.

NJ needs to fall back, move to Brooklyn, and start from there.

Probably the best move for the Nets. They are better off keeping the picks and young guys.

But lol at them trying to save face. Everyone knew months ago what the deal was.

I bet for Denver GM that bottle of Scotch sounds really good right now.

Sources: Carmelo Willing To Wait, Sign With Knicks As Free Agent

Several sources close to Carmelo Anthony tell Chris Broussard that he is willing to play out the season and sign in New York as a free agent next summer, feeling that he can make up lost salary through endorsements.

With the belief that Anthony will end up signing with the Knicks growing, teams may back off their pursuit of the All-Star forward.

"Sources also say sentiment around the league that Anthony will sign with New York is so strong that many teams that have been willing to trade for Anthony as a rental are now reconsidering," Broussard writes.

The Rockets are thought to be a prime candidate to rent Anthony but if the team feels its chances of convincing him to sign an extension to stay in Houston are slim, it will not make a substantial offer to Denver.

Sources tell Broussard that the Knicks' timetable for trading Anthony Randolph may be pushed back by about one week with the Nets pulling out of trade discussions to acquire Anthony.

Minnesota and Indiana are the likeliest destinations for Randolph because both teams have an available first-round pick that the Knicks can use in a trade for Anthony.

But the Nuggets may be interested in taking Randolph for themselves.

I may be the only one thinking this, but shouldn't Carmelo just stay in Denver. On the Knicks he would be like Chris Bosh, a second fiddle to STAT. They have a ton of good role players with 2 good starters in Billups and Nene. Chris Paul might go to NYK, but they would have to gut their roster. Another thing people don't notice is the difference between Melo, Amare, and CP3 and LeBron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh. The latter is a little more talented, and that's why they don't need as good role players as the Knicks might . With the Knicks potential big three, they would still need 1 good starter at SG/C and 2-3 good role players.

He'd be second fiddle to STAT in the way that LeBron is second fiddle to DWade I suppose. I mean, Melo is arguably the best scorer in the league. I don't see him playing second fiddle to anyone really.

LeBron is a better than Melo and CP3 is injury prone. Melo is a better shooter than LeBron, but not better at anything else. STAT is better than Bosh, except on defense where he is bad. Wade and CP3 are both players who will probably have career ending injuries in the next 4-5 years.

Comparing Melo and LeBron's offensive game and saying one is better than the other is hard to do. Melo is a better scorer, but Lebron is a great penetrator and a good playmaker. They're both exceptional offensive players. LeBron is definitely the better defender, even though he is a bit overrated on defense (by most). STAT isn't a good defender, but I guarentee you players feel better knowing he has their back on defense then they would with Bosh. Bosh is about as good a defender as Pau was the first time they faced the Celtics in the finals (AKA not good). It would all come down to the role players, but honestly, there's a pretty decent chance that a CP3, Melo and Amare tandem could beat a Wade, Lebron, Bosh tandem depending on who the role players are.
