I'd lay off the homer thing....there's a difference between fans and homers.

As for defense, AGAIN, the defense looks worse because we give up second chance points. REBOUNDING is the problem. God, I feel like I've been saying that since 1997.

What is the difference? I don't have an NBA team....I always thought homers were dudes who thought that their team is the only thing that matters. Like Tommy Heinson (Celtic announcer).

When you fast break you are going to give up offensive rebounds. It isn't that big of a deal as long as you play at a high tempo. The hope is to have a big stud like Lopez to rebound so others can leak out. I think it is an all right gamble for the Suns.

I honestly have more problems with the SUns offense than their defense. They have turned the ball over a lot because Nash and Dragic are trying to facilitate way too much.

I just thought you brought up that this Suns team will inevitably get beat by the Lakers because you are a Lakers fan....maybe I am wrong.....perhaps you would have mentioned the Jazz or Hornets or even the Spurs.....

All championship teams dump it into the post???? The Celtics...the Pistons....the Bulls.....not sure where you are going with that.

The Suns are clearly more active defensively. Their style is never going to show up in the stats. For the Suns defense you are going to have to look at possessions per game, Ft's, contested shots, 3PT %.....those are what fastbreak teams care about defensively.
If you really want to analyze Boston/Detroit/Chicago we can do that, but realize PHX doesn't have anything near what either of them had defensively. Nowhere near it, just for starters.

As far me being a Laker fan, I guess you haven't been around much, I post about every team. It's not hard, you can look at any thread and find me, I'm an OS whore. Not to mention I definitely rip LA/Kobe. Not so much this year since it's early, but years past. It's honestly not hard to find, most LA fans around here probably don't like what I have say about them and their precious Kobe Bryant.

LA this year has no excuse not to make the conference championship, therefore most of my posts this year will probably come off a certain way. Now in years past it wasn't like that at all.

I wouldn't go THAT far with him lol.

He gives every team equal attention although he may give some more attention than others, he's definitely not a "Talk Lakers and Lakers Only" type of dude. He's a Laker Fan, but he's far from you're usual Laker Homer that you usually see out in the street where all you'll hear from them is "Hahahahah We got the best player in the world, *****!!! YEAHHHHHH GO LAKERS!!!!!!! GO KOBE!!!!!!! **** LEBRON!!!!!!"

A homer is just outlandish. Makes ridiculous statements, speaks without proper punctuation and grammar, ridiculous expectations, etc AND act like they're the only ones that matter. Interestingly enough, and I know this is a bit of a backhanded compliment, but Ex is a bit more rational than your average Laker homer scum.

I know when you break you leave yourself vulnerable, but really, it's a massive problem. It's a HUGE deal when you're giving up second chance points all the freakin' time. Those second chance points are the difference between wins and losses. Lopez will never be a ridiculous rebounder. Lopez is perfect for blocks and some dumpoffs, though.

And surprisingly, the Suns haven't turned it over too much in the last few games. Nash, for example, has only had 1 turnover in the LA/Denver games. Dragic's control will come with time.

I have a problem with the bench often looking better than the starters, but then again, its like having two teams out there, so it's fine, I guess.

                Re: 11/15-11/21 Game Discussion Thread

Now I have to admit, I don't actually blame Dewie for calling me a Laker homer, if the conversation is specifically about PHX vs. LA. I could see that. Since LA got Pau, I have always thought there was no way PHX could match up with them, even with Amare. Now that they added Childress/Turk/Warrick, even though they may still make the post season, I think they match up even worse with LA in a series.

But instead of playing the homer card, why not just reply to each argument made.

That's just my thing with that, but I would much rather talk hoops.

If I come off like a punk, I'll tone it down. No need for that on this site.

Yes. No need for this thing to turn into what I see on FB, RealGM, etc.

How are these dependent? Teams win championships many different ways.

Can we say that the San Antonio Spurs teams that had great defense and a low post option couldn't repeat because they didn't have enough offense? Same as most of the Eastern conference fodder of the 2000's.

I never understand where you are going with an argument. We can bring up all kinds of hypotheticals and "popular wisdom".

I guess I should state I don't care much about who wins the title or who the best teams are. I watch to see how teams improve, adapt and use strategy.

In my head the Suns can beat the Lakers in a series if they do X, Y, and Z. The Lakers will win the series if they do X, Y and Z. The beauty of the game is seeing what works best taking into consideration the expectations.

Sorry if I offended. I never knew "homer" had some kind of derogatory meaning. I always use it to describe people who are fans of a team, since I don't have an NBA team most dudes on here appear as "homers" to me.

I don't get offended from message boards

When you call someone a homer though, it's more of a way of showing how the guy who said it has nothing really to say. It's like a cop out, it's like a way of just being inferior in the discussion.

As far as a championship formula, well there are common factors you see throughout history.

I should have said if you don't have inside scoring, you're gonna need elite level wings and/or at least a middle of the road defense that can match up individually consistently. Until the Lakers/Celtics disband, you're not going to beat them with what PHX has in a playoff series. If you would like to wager any amount of money just let me know.

Do you mean the Pistons coach? If so, good question. Last year he had the injury pass, and then this year 0-5 start made it look like he was done. Then Pistons reel off 4 of 5 before last night. I'm curious how long he'll last, but he did gain a little respect for benching Stuckey a few games back for ignoring him during a time out, then giving him a DNP the next game.

Yeah, plus Tayshaun was yelling at the fans. It sucks because he's been such a fan favorite for years, and now everyone wants him traded to unclog the perimeter.
