This is the whole phenomena that happens with young players. They have a great skill but they are rarely effecient winning basketball players.

Tyreke Evans did some amazing things one on one last year. But his team was horrible and he struggled on making his team better. He gets a lot of hype for going 20-5-5. But how good is he really?
You can't be serious with this right?? So you pick out the two teams in the league with already established all stars at their position to say they are overrated and wouldn't get but 10 to 15 mins a night. That's like saying Brandon Roy is overrated then cause he wouldn't start at SG for the Lakers either. Trust if Glen Davis is getting 30 mins a night for the Celtics right now Blake Griffin would get far more than 10 to 15. So you mean to tell me Steve Blake can get over 18 mins a night with the Lakers but John Wall couldn't but 10?? Both Wall and Griffin would start right now for Orlando and they was a finals team the year before. There isn't but maybe 4 teams tops that Blake Griffin wouldn't start for right now. Wall is different because there are more teams with all star level PG's right now but trust there isn't a team on this planet that he would only get 10 to 15 mins a night on.

There is a reason why number 1 picks start out on bad teams. You have to be a bad team to get that pick. The fact that these guys can step right in and put up all star level numbers shows they are guys you can build around and make a winning team.

This was pretty much the worst and most random evidence you could use if you're trying to say they're overrated. Why would you use the past two title teams in this discussion.. especially since both teams still have their core intact.

As far as Wall/Blake goes, they're rookies, if they produce at a high rate, no matter how bad the team, people rightfully so will be clamoring about them. A majority of the Rookie of the Year winners have had good to great careers, and it seems like Wall/Blake have a leg up for that honor.

Now with that said, I haven't heard anyone calling these guys Hall of Famers yet, so I don't get how they're overrated.

Overrated = Gets talked about way too much by the Casuals/Mainstreamers, gets ridiculous comparisons mades to them, gets way too much air time either on TV or Internet to the point where people(die hard Basketball Fans) get enough of it and that's where the overrated talk gets started.

        By that criteria....Dirk is underrated.

By that logic everyone in the league that doesn't play for Miami or the Lakers is underrated.

I'd like to throw in Nicolas Batum and Andrew Bogut, even though Bogut is a punk bitch for blocking me on Twitter after I sent him a video tutorial on how to shoot a free throw. Serge Ibaka, Jared Dudley, Steve Blake, Paul Millsap are also a few underrated guys.

                First, haha.

Second, agree with you on Millsap.

I've always felt like Tayshaun Prince is an underrated/underappreciated guy.

Ilyasova and Delfino are my boys for the Bucks. They don't even get enough credit from their own team but I just love the effort that these guys play with and both have evolved the last couple years. From the 2 or 3 games I've seen this year, Delfino is taking on sort of a Hedo Turkoglu role where he handles the ball in certain situations and he just explodes every once in awhile with his 3 point shooting and finishing ability around the rim.

I also agree about Milsap being underrated. Ex, Packman basically described my thought process for calling Dirk underrated. Maybe underappreciated would be the better word, but still, even with the MVP title, I think he is underrated, and gets little respect for his ability.

No he wouldn't because he gets PLENTY of love from us here but not enough from the folks who casually follow the game or from the folks at BSPN. People that actually follow the game KNOW Dirk is a beast.

So Marino is right in that "underappreciated" is a better word to describe him than underrated.

This question is basically an open-ended question with many possibilities. I posted a question a while ago on something similar. It wasn’t the same question but it had the same context. And the question was more definitive. My question was, “Who was the best player to play for at least 5 seasons without an all-star appearance?” I think that question encompasses good players that get NO recognition. One measure of recognition is all-star game appearance. It doesn’t actually measure how good a player is BUT all-star game appearance does give players some level of recognition. Even though there are marginal players who make all-star game appearances, good to great players definitely should be in an all-star game once in a while. A guy like Jason Terry comes to mind when I think about this type of player. A guy who never played in an all-star game BUT has solid numbers to warrant at least one all-star game in his career.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X

God help me for this but Lebron James is underrated now. People are talking about how he's not the best player in the league and Kevin Durant is. It's ridiculous how all the overbearing backlash turned him into the most underrated guy in the league. Suddenly he sucks, he's worse than Durant, Kobe, and Boris Diaw. I can't believe a 2 time reigning MVP is underrated but here we are.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

People call Kevin Durant the best player in the NBA but most of that is based off what Lebron did OFF the court this past offseason with the whole "Decision" mess and everything else that followed afterwards.

Who wasn't he getting attention by?? He won two MVP (one of those should have benn Kidd's) so he got the love from the media with NBA creds. He was always starting in the all star game so he was getting love from the fans. He has had his own shoes and commercials with both Nike(start of his career) and Addidas and was on the cover of March Madness and NBA Live so he had major endorsements. The Spurs have been on TV alot and he has been called the greatest PF of all time by everybody for quite a while. So who wasn't giving him any attention??
