As long as stern is the commissioner of the nba the product will never resemble its past glory. Every now and then i may seem some good games but the majority of the time it feels like im watching wrestling. The refs have too much influence in the game, and the flopping is just disgusting to watch.

That game 7 showed whats so wrong with the nba. If two teams play their hearts out and one team wins on skill fine. But having the refs take over a game to give it to another team is not entertaining at all to watch. That game actually had more of negative effect to me.Comment

of course that whole superstars teaming up thing wouldn't be a problem with you had the teaming up happened in Cleveland.Comment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
Hey Ehh do you have a link to Stern discussing this? The excessive usage of time-outs in the last two minutes of play has been, by far, my least favorite part of watching NBA basketball.
One time-out in the last two minutes is perfect. The way it stands now, once we reach the two minute mark, it's as if the professional basketball players have forgotten how to play basketball. Change of possession? Time-out so we can decide what to do next. We score? Let's hope they call a time-out so we can decide what to do next. We stop them from scoring? Let's call a time-out so we can decide what to do next.
I am a huge, huge backer of playing basketball until a time-out seems absolutely necessary. If the opposing team hits a go-ahead bucket with 2.3 seconds left, I have no issue with calling a time-out. It's the 8 billion time-outs that take place in the previous three minutes that really irk me. There's no way the ratio of minutes of basketball played to time-out minutes should be anywhere near the realm of 1 to 10, but it is in the closing moments.Comment

I'll agree with you about game 7 but the first six games of that series were some of the best basketball to be played in recent memory. That game 7 showed whats so wrong with the nba. Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
So now we're punishing guys for learning from history's mistakes? Okay....
We want players to WANT to win championships and not be in it for the money or anything like that, yet when they DO want to win a championship, suddenly that should be against the rules.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
it shouldn't be against the rules, i have zero problem with chris bosh wanting to play with another superstar, i have a problem with lebron and wade playing together... bosh was NOT going to win a championship on his own, Lebron was pretty damn close and while the rest of his team may not have been supremely talented, they were very well suited to complement his play style.
anyways
MY PROBLEM with the league that makes games worse for me is that when a team is down 3 with a few seconds left, teams foul to put them on the line for 2 shots eliminating all drama and any chance the trailing team has to win... the refs need to start calling those shooting fouls (you all know what i mean, the only time throughout a game when continuation doesn't exist) to discourage teams from fouling in that situation... if you want to win the game, play some good defense for all of 3 seconds. if the guy hits a great shot and forces overtime? tip your hat and go out and get em in overtime... i HATE seeing teams have to shoot 2 free throws while down 3 with 1 second leftComment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
It's all to protect the sacred cow of the 90's NBA. It's fans who don't actually know the history of the league or the stories behind the players yet, instead, invent one that is inherently filled with an impossible double standard that boils down to "well they didn't do it like MJ so it don't count".
AAU Ball ruined the game! In the 90's none of those guys were friends! They hated each other and ate and slept basketball all day! Oh wait...you saw those videos on the Dream Team where Jordan and chummy with Barkley? Or...wait...you see how Reggie Miller talks fondly of the rivalry with the Knicks. Or...wait...Comment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
I hardly EVER see that happen. Most teams just play D. I think it's stupid to not foul.it shouldn't be against the rules, i have zero problem with chris bosh wanting to play with another superstar, i have a problem with lebron and wade playing together... bosh was NOT going to win a championship on his own, Lebron was pretty damn close and while the rest of his team may not have been supremely talented, they were very well suited to complement his play style.

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
I put the blame squarely on David Stern.
It took 20 years, but Stern has finally gotten what he has wanted: A Eurofied NBA.
The enforcer power forward who patrolled the paint, the lockdown, physical, on ball defender, the classic low post center are pretty much extinct.
The game is now the domain of the perimeter player, due to the rule changes.
Players now dive into the lane at 100 MPH, bang into a defender, throw some slop up against the glass, and expect to hear a whistle. When they dont get one, they act as if someone just slapped their wife.Comment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
Read this whole thread... Surprised no one has brought this up: ego.
Yeah, the league has always had egotistical players, but not to the extent to where it took away from the beauty of team play... And if it did that player was usually frowned upon because he was seen as being selfish.
Now when I see a game selfishness is rampant. Even the supposedly good "teams" have been infiltrated with selfish and individualistic play. There are too many players that want the spotlight on themselves and the end result is ugly basketball. All ties severed...Comment

Could you be more specific? Names please?
Didnt Magic Johnson run his rookie coach out of LA?
Didnt Jordan prevent Isiah Thomas from being on the Dream Team?
When was this EGO-less Golden Era you guys seem to talk about?

Dude, buy a clue... The examples you cite have nothing to do with play on the court.Could you be more specific? Names please?
