Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
Despite the issues the NBA has, I would take NBA Basketball over the College Game, every day of the week.
You can watch a college basketball and go 8 minutes without seeing either team make a shot. It's not because of any great defense being playing, its because the players arent very skilled.
Honestly, I think the entire basketball food chain is broken.
The physically dominant kid, doesnt coached in high school..he gets pimped around the AAU Circuit and to shoe companies.
He then spends one year in college, where the coach is more concerned about getting W's and getting to the final 4, then he is about teaching a kid how to play.
An NBA team then works the kid out, and if he can do a shuttle run fast, hit the top of the glassboard box from a stand still jump, dribble fast through cones, and hit unguarded, pressureless, jumpers..he becomes a lottery pick.
The team drafting him then prays that the kid has a work ethic.
If he does, you end up with, at worst, a solid starter like Kendrick Perkins, or a good rotation player.
Unfortunately, for every one of those, you have a bunch of kids who should be juniors and seniors in college, playing out their rookie contracts on the end of the bench, or littering the D-League scraping to get by.
Why? Becuause no one was ever honest enough to tell them that they cant play. Thats why you have 50 underclassmen, declaring for a 2 round draft every year.
All they have heard since they were 14 is that they are going to be the next this, or the next that.Last edited by sportyguyfl31; 01-22-2011, 03:56 PM.Comment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
and again, it wasnt as half as bad as it is now
Do you see star treatment in those pics? Do you think if Rasheed Wallace pulled one
of those moves on Kobe or Durant that he wouldn't be treated like he beat a homeless woman?
It was a mans game, a game with real centers not some crap team
that was drafted together because of upside and wingspan
Thats a really weak statement to try to excuse the garbage that you know
you see on tv.
You had a ref go to freaking jail for cheating, and he worked in a playoff
series that we all knew the refs did a screw job on a particular team.
All that happened was it got dismissed because the winning team was in LA.
So please, stop bringing up Jordan because you're trying to direct the attention off of all of the crap youre looking at right now
So since you are the one who gave me this pretty weak and lame response, you tell me what this army general is doing to make these refs more professional?
You tell me why guys are being ejected for saying whoa?
Tell me why the T Wolves got 5 techs in 10 freaking seconds?
Why are the owners crying broke although they lie about how high the ratings are each year? Why are ticket prices and league pass prices hiked
after the NBA laid off hundreds of people?
Why is it that there are no more real centers?
Why do some of the so called biggest stars get to whine and complain like a nagging wife and get away with what everyone else is being slapped for?
What you have now is a severely flawed productComment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
Star treatment always existed in the NBA.
The problem with the NBA is the overexposure of the product. We get to see too many games. In the early 80s you mainly would get the Sunday afternoon games on CBS. The best teams would play and the NBA could put the best product on the floor. In the 90's the NBA depended on Jordan. Now between ESPN, TNT, ABC, NBA TV fans get to see the whole NBA.
The bottom half of the league isn't a pretty sight. The talent pool is diluted not the teams but the refs. There aren't enough quality refs in the league. I think some refs are arrogant but other don't have the talent nor the skill call a NBA game. The product suffers.
The other problem was the Jordan cult. The rise of the NBA was the marketing of Jordan to non NBA fans. When Jordan retired the NBA began a quest for the next one but haven't found Jordan the 2nd. The NBA is a victim of their own success.Comment

Why is the NFL not considered overexposed when there are things like Sunday Ticket out there for you to watch every game every Sunday?Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Yes, the game is more "corrupted" now, but stars DID charge the paint and look for a foul during crunchtime in the 80's and 90's. Whats so hard to swallow?
A dude said that the refs blow the whistle too often in today's game, like it didnt exist AT ALL in the past. It did. Stars have always gotten star treatment. I dont know what that has to do w/ why there are no real Centers in the L.
5 pictures of hard fouls doesnt disprove that Stars got calls.
My mention of Jordan isnt an attempt to "direct the attention off of all of the crap youre looking at right now", it highlighting the game's history. Not a attack on your idol.
Nowhere in my post or previous posts have I had to use insults to prove a point.
Feel free to disagree.Last edited by BATMON; 01-22-2011, 09:08 PM.Comment

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
I watched the NBA for 30 years and stars always got special treatment. I agree the lost of low post offense is killing the game but that is the byproduct of the Jordan cult. Players don't develop those skills sets.and again, it wasnt as half as bad as it is now

Re: The reason why I think the NBA is failing for me
A. The vast majority of NFL games are played on one day. And B. There are only 16 weeks.
With the NBA, there are games on just about every night for 8 months straight including the Playoffs. I completely understand the overexposure statement.Indianapolis Colts
Indiana Pacers
Indiana Hoosiers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
