In any given year a player can be playing better ball than the best player in the league, however he's screwed from being MVP because he's not the consensus best player in the league every year? Guys like Derrick Rose or KD or Dwight should not have they're contributions flushed down the toliet cause they just happen to play in the league with LeBron James or Kobe or whoever everyone is calling the best in the league at the time. The guys teammates matter because it's Most Valuable Player to his team's success. What happens if a player is the best player in the league (as many felt Kobe was at a point) and his team doesn't make the playoffs? Now because the criteria for MVP (or the Best Player Award cause you want to eliminate the MVP) is being the best player in the league, the guy playing for the nine, tenth ranked team in his conference gets an award and those other guys just get to be happy they're a one or two or three seed.

I'm with Matrix, just make an Offensive Player of the Year award and an MVP.
I don't see how this is a safe assumption. Rose has an amazingly high ceiling and is a lot younger than Williams and Paul. I don't think its safe to assume that Rose wont be looking at Willaims and Paul in the rearview mirror next year and beyond.

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?

Like I said, I won't be mad if someone says "Rose is undoubtedly playing the best ball out of all the PG's this year", but I still wouldn't agree with it.

Really depends on what you want out of your PG. Rose's defense isn't comparable to Paul's, Rose scores more than Paul, their rebounding are similar, CP3 racks up more assists and generally runs his team better than anyone not named Nash. So it depends really.

As far as the overall discussion about what dictates the true MVP, well obviously you must take into account team record as well. I don't think Kobe should have won MVP the few years Shaq left even though he was putting up Godly numbers... because his team wasn't really winning games.

It's a balancing act but for the most part IMO if your team is looking like a top team and you have the best player with the best stats... I'm gonna go with him.

CP3 is a way better PG then Rose is.

I wouldn't be mad if someone were to say "this year, Rose has been playing the 'best' out of all PG's". But I wouldn't say that's a definite.
I totally agree.. That's what I meant Dice...

If D Wade keeps throwing up 41 point games like last night, Lebron can forget about that MVP award.

Keeps throwing up 41 point games? Yeah I doubt it.

LeBron didn't have too bad a game himself last night

Nope. Lebron had a great game. It just wasn't better than Wade's.

Yea I was thinking the samething.... But I don't know I feel as though LeBron effects the Heat on both sides of the more then Wade does. I think the only way LeBron can really win the award is if the Heat finish first in the East (and he obviously keeps putting up these all around numbers).

No I understand. If it was a Batman/Robin situation, Lebron would clearly be Batman. He definitly is the engine of the team.

I just thought of something.... When Shaq left Kobe back in the day. Did Kobe become Nightwing? Or...maybe I got it twisted?.... LMFAO

I hate the fact that all the turnover and strife up until the trade has forced the Suns to only be 27-26, because if you take post-trade results and stretch them out, we'd be on pace for like, 55 wins and Nash would most certainly be in the Top 3 for MVP discussion.

Nash should be in MVP talks out of pure class. Everyone knows that the Suns blew it up this summer, and that Nash doesn't have alot of time left. Does he cry for a trade to get his ring? No, kid goes out with his team, plays hard nightly(and ALWAYS backs his teamates), and starts to get them back in the Race.

Nash is a once in a lifetime player.

Unfortunately, taking a look at the whole season and not just since the deal, we're only 27-26....so he wouldn't be in the discussion. You don't deem someone most valuable in the league if you're only at 10th place. Your points are correct, though.....and incredibly, it could be argued that he's having his best season ever.

Nash has 8 games with 20 points and 15 assists this year. The rest of the league has four.

Hopefully Nash will find some where in the off season. You think he has one more year or 2 more. And will he come off the bench for a team?

He'll be in Phoenix for the duration of his career, in my opinion.

                                A) He means more to us than he would to any other team.
                                B) No real options to ship him anywhere anyway.
                                C) Training staff here is the best in the league.
                                D) He's still a massive, massive draw at the box office.
                                E) He's still playing at an un-be-lievable level.
                                F) He seems to love Phoenix a lot.
                                G) Throughout all the crap the team has gone through over the years, you've never--not once--heard him bitch for a trade or held the team hostage with attitude, contracts, or anything like that...... unilke the rest of these primadonna attention whores.
