Re: The worst pick up players.
A guy came in to the gym yesterday a few minutes after I started training. We have the standard full court, 6 nets, four on the widths, two on the length. So 3 on each half of the court. I took the main net on one half of the court. The other two were wide open.
Dude comes in and starts shooting on all three.

Re: The worst pick up players.
depends how you jump
i think as a 2leg jumper its all about the uper legs (squats)
but if you can/do jump 1 leg calves help
--also theres a reason ray allen has some of the best calves ever..
i actually think most of my muscle mass is in my legs, hence my 20+ inch vertical @ 250 pounds ...ty skateboardingComment

Honestly what works best for me is more plyometrics type exercises. I've never squatted very heavy but more lighter weight explosive reps.. As much as working on your legs helps I feel strengthening your core is equally important.. That might just be me, I just more explode off of two feet.
For example, I can't take off from all that far, but can explode straight up fairly high. My standing vertical isn't all that different from my max for that very reason. I use a lot of momentum from my core..
So things like box jumps, not the tall ones but a short box you can go back and forth over, jump ropes with a heavy rope, lunges, quickness drills like lane slides, sit ups, broad jumps up and down the court, etc..
I also had strength shoes, but I don't feel that helped me all that much, they would likely help someone who used more calves in their jump than what I do though..
Also if you have access to one of these.
Quick jumps off your toes on the flat platform, deep squat jumps on the incline. That helped me quite a bit.
This is the stuff I used to do back when I was younger and in shape, when I could actually jump fairly high.Last edited by ojandpizza; 08-12-2014, 12:08 AM.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Yeah, I'm not sure how much it all helped. Once I got to where I could dunk (because it came out of nowhere) I started doing them more to try and get higher.. But most of that stuff is what our entire HS team did every day to start practice.
I stopped once I was out of high school but still probably added an extra 3 - 4 inches to my jump just from maturing I guess and playing pick up ball every day after classes in college. I got to the point when I was 20 or so that I could get down a windmill off of one or two steps.Comment
