Re: The worst pick up players.

Man I am going to a new gym now, and I am in heaven....simple, smart basketball being played there. From the young guys to the old guys. Simple passes to the open man, pick and rolls, back picks...i love it...

Guess the influx of new players at my old gym had got me accustomed to junk ball. Full sprints (by guys who can't dribble) down court as soon as the ball is inbounded leading to a terrible shot or turnover. Just DUMB passes being made when there is a guy standing open. Guys don't understand how to use a pick. The WORST.

    End rant.

Maybe I've just been overly fortunate, but I've never had any issue with fouls.

Every pick up game I've ever played, people have been good about calling fouls they commit. If I catch a guy across the arm, I call it immediately. And most guys I've ever played with have done the same.

Off topic, but I found this clip from my sophomore year the other day. Legitimate call?

What'd they call, goaltending? Looked like it hit the backboard first. Either way, it's a high school game and I know all about high school refs so... yeah, lol.

Sorry for the lack of initial clarity. In fact, he called a technical foul for the hand hitting the backboard.

How we play at the Gym around my way:

              -Games go to 13(2s & 1s)win by 2.

-If you call "Ball up" or "Check uptop" then you're calling for a foul. Agree with VDusen as far as "and one" goes in that we'll call it if the intent is/was to foul. Continuation rule can vary depending on where the call is at on the floor.

It seems like whenever I have played in the south/west....there was no continuation...

                  The worst pick up players.

I think in some instances continuation should be allowed.. For example, I played last week with some guys and they just run half court games 4 on 4.. We had a decent lead and were getting closer to game point and I jabbed left and took man my right towards the lane.. He bit the fake so I easily went by him, I had picked the dribble up and planted to take off for the lay-up and he called a foul. I'm not sure if he pushed my back, or grabbed my shirt or what because I honestly never felt anything. But it's possible I had just gotten used to playing through the contact, this gym everyone plays rough, I had scratches and bruises on my arms, chest, and side when I got home lol... I went ahead and hit the shot but he didn't count the basket.. I didn't say anything because I was confident we would win regardless, but everyone on our team was looking around questioning why the basket wasn't good.

Even there you said everyone was looking around like that was crazy. The basket should count... everywhere in the world.

I hate when two players have a little rivalry going and they literally try to play one on one. Look, I don't mind if they do it for one or two possessions or even a few more of the shots are actually going down, but its a problem when they haven't even scored and each tried like 4 times each. So annoying.

When it doesn't work it's really lame, but there's nothing like a good shootout.

I don't know if you guys have one of these, but how about the guy who gets upset for whatever reason, then basically quits midgame. I mean, he still out there playing, but they're just going through the motions?

On a similar note the guy who quits on a play. My example: Normally, it's a PG and he throws either a bad pass or the guy who he's passing to cuts/doesn't cut and it's an easy turnover for the other team. Then instead of giving a little bit of effort and chasing down the ball, they just stand there.

Man, that really burns me up.

I was playing last night and what started happening was on easy layups this guy would go for backdoor or reverse layups randomly. So I went up to him and I was like "uh...bro shoot regular lay ups". He go's like "Haters going to hate" and was like uh..... you missed every lay up you've tried

Yeah. In the south if you call foul that's it. You check up. Doesn't matter if you made it or not. Sometimes you may dispute if it's halfcourt (4v4,3v3) as that's usually make it take it and you can choose between ball or point. But if it's full court 5 on 5? You're taking the ball back out.

Also, the gyms I play at, "AND 1!" is not recognized as a foul call. It's more a "And I still made it" gloat.

Because of the way fouls are called down here you don't see many people call it unless they knock you to the ground or they hack you on the arm.
