Re: Kendrick Perkins Traded to OKC

Considering both teams' different situations, it was a good trade for both teams.

I'm surprised, though, that OKC got impatient and got Perkins instead of waiting for D12 in 2012. They are the sleeper in that sweep stake. There's a big risk in that (D12 might not come), but it's worth the risk because the upside is a dynasty.

This could be a mistake for OKC over the long run IF they resign Perkins. I don't believe Perkins pushes them over the top. With Miami looming for years, they NEED Dwight Howard.

For the Celtics, it was a good move. They can't pay Perkins so they got what they could for him.

Impatient? Na, Jeff Green wasn't a part of their future plans, so might as well see how Perkins could fit in. If they don't like it, he's a free agent after the season... if they do like him... well that's when they could sign him and then you can maybe make the judgment that they got impatient.

How are they impatient at this moment?

While on the other hand Boston gets a proven/healthy baller who has nothing holding him back, be it recovery or what have you.

Lest we forget, the C's have managed to almost completely dominate their opponent without Perkins this season....

The dude is coming off major knee surgery too, so it's not as if they can go full throttle with him anytime soon....so just how effective were they going to be? They'd really be no worse if they just continued to trot out Shaq, Erden, Davis, or whatever.

BLUF: Who was legitmately saying: Boston is good now, but a definite contender once Perkins returns....?

I don't remember seeing/hearing anything that made Boston's title run contingent on Kendrick Perkins' return. Why now?
Yes I'm thinking about the injury as well. I also remembered an old trade, Grant Hill for Wallace and Atkins and Hill didn't play for the next 5-6 years because of injury.

Maybe Boston, and their doctors, know something we don't.

Why didn't Celtics just wait it out? "If it ain't broke don't fix it".... If they really can get Wallace back. This trade will look genius.

Problem with that is, that was the max they could give him and he rejected it saying he wanted to test the market

Essentially Danny Ainge said they didnt have extra money in FA to pay him more, and he was going to leave anyway so they had to do something

I dont know what he's doing making those other moves but I guess

                      ^^Yea I know^^

I really want to see what other teams would pay him more. But they are always dummies out there.

The Celtics will miss their best shot blocker though. Jeff Green is a underrated defender. He should be a good fit. Kristin should be a natural fit. Nice jumper and a underrated rebounder. Will be nice to see how this plays out.

I would love to see him succeed in OKC though. Boston will be okay during the season, playoffs, who knows

Strong possibility of Leon Powe/Boston reunion if the Cavs end up waiving him, which seems likely.

I was always a Powe fan, so I would not mind that at all.

Also, everyone in the Boston media aside from one site has said "hell no" to 'Sheed's return, with both sides saying it won't happen. I would rather get Murphy and Powe than Sheed.

Perkins importance in the finals is being SO overstated. You'd think he would've been MVP if he were healthy. Was his injury a significant blow? Kind of. The Celtics took the Lakers to 7 games and lost a very close game 7. Seems like they did ok. The importance he had was more due to the few options the Celtics had to match up with the incredibly long Lakers team than his other-worldly talent. He's a "solid" player... no more, no less. Heading into the playoffs with Shaq, JOneal, Kristic, Big Baby, Green and whoever else they sign (Murphy) is more than enough for a team centered around Garnett, Allen, Pierce and Rondo. This isn't the second coming of Dennis Rodman we're talking about here.

The hype of him seems way too close to the HORRIBLE comments Doc made after the championship about the Lakers not beating their entire starting lineup. Anyone should be ashamed of themselves for saying anything like that after losing... especially when you're talking about "the other guy" (Rondo, Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and [insert other guy]).

Exactly. The thought seems to be "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but it what hasn't been "broke" is a team that's barely had Perkins to begin with. So as a GM, you realize your team is in 1st in the East with rotating vets at the center position, you have a "guy" with a serious injury threatening to walk, and you have an opportunity to improve the depth at SF which I feel was thin. It's a good trade for OKC too but Perkins on any team besides one that made it to the championship is a relative unknown.
