LOL @ Barkley destroying the offense. The 1993 Suns were one of the best and most efficient offensive teams ever, and he was the MVP of the season that year.

i think he means for the totality of his career, not that particular season.

Was it because he slashes sorta like Jordan, passes sorta like Magic, and trys to shoot like Bird? I wanna know what you guys think about this question I brought into the discussion. Any good, worth while answers I would appreciate. I'm not saying he'll win a championship this year but still... I think he's Top 3 in the league right now definately.
It's not that many posts but this question isn't the same as what's being discussed. Not a bad question though, but I don't think anyone has said he is or isn't top 3 in the league (since the question is why can't he be). I'm not sure where James fits in here. He was named King in high school just like hundreds of other athletes get nicknames in high school. It was bc he was the best high school player in the area and probably the best anyone associated with naming him had seen. Had nothing to do with the NBA.

Dirk has jumped up a level in my mind. He's not a top 10 player like Carlisle says, but if I was picking two all time teams to play against each other-12 on each squad- he be on one of the teams. That is still one super exclusive list.

              Top 10 offensive?

Clearly if you add defense he is eliminated from the conversation

Dirk is the G.E.E. (greatest Euro ever, with apologies to Sabonis). In my humble opinion.

The only real thing that annoys me is when the media compares Dirk to Larry Bird.

I understand it is human nature, and I understand why they are making that kind of comparison, but the 2 play absolutely nothing alike.

BTW, remember that Dirk vs. Pau Gasol thread? How silly does that 'competition' seem now?

                    1. Actually if you look at the content of the thread, it was a pretty good discussion

                    2. It's a shame that people didn't really grasp what some of the Pau supporters were actually saying, instead trying to make it seem like they were just Laker fans

                    3. I think everyone in that thread agreed that Dirk was the better overall player, but the Pau supporters couldn't look past his inability to make consistent deep runs in the post season, fair or not. At the time of the thread, he had been bounced out of the first round several times

                    4. It's amazing what a defensive presence in the middle has done to the overall team success. Dirk would probably have a ring if he had someone like Chandler earlier, and probably would not have been eliminated after the first round so many times

                    5. Overall, all I can say is Dirk has established himself as one of the All-Timers. Regardless if he gets a ring or not, if Barkley, Ewing, Malone etc. etc. can be considered so highly, then Dirk belongs there as well. The skill set that he's displayed this post season is unlike anything basketball has ever seen

speaking solely for myself, it wasn't so much that i want pau gasol more than dirk nowitzki. it was i want a big man akin to gasol, who has an elite post game and a solid mid-range game than dirk, who has the opposite. nba history favors the former more than the latter to an astounding degree.

Kevin McHale believe it or not has made these comments a few times this post season.....now i'm not comparing Dirk to Bird but when you hear a long time teammate of Bird's in McHale make those comments then you have to feel like it's warranted right?

Heck even Magic Johnson has said some of the things Dirk is doing now is Birdlike

I mean I remember that Pau Gasol vs Dirk thread... that was the worst. Dirk is clearly a batman lol. Na but if Dirk were to get a ring this year. He would have to be in my top ten of all time.
