If you believe the Newsweek article Kobe started dating her during his first NBA season. According to the article, their relationship caused quite a ruckus around the high school.

Even though I despise it whenever Shaq opens his mouth, he's right. Kobe is completely expendable. Even more so with the arrival of Karl and, more importantly, Gary.

P.S.- Vanessa, even though I am confident that you're nothing more than a heartless bloodsucker -- why else hasn't she dumped Kobe -- and that you will never ever read this, you need to dump Kobe for me. I'm all the man you would ever need. Kobe can't love you like I can.

Kobe's completely expendable.........the Lakers wouldn't make it out the first round with Shaq, payton, and malone if Kobe's not around......don't fool yourself....this year, Shaq on the otherhand, may be the expendible one.

You know what? Usually i'd say this is Shaq being stupid but after reading his comments I agree with him. The Lakers are indeed Shaq's team. Everybody remember how the Lakers struggled last year when Shaq was injured for a stretch of the season. The team didn't play as well as they could until Shaq Diesal came back.

Kobe is a very good player but that's about it. He can't really lead a team to the championship unless he has a star of equal standing.

I also think that Shaq's got the best mentality about playing with Payton and Malone. He wants to be 100% healthy and play at his best level. I'm even wagering that Shaq would sacrifice some stats if it means getting Payton and Malone a championship.

This is why he has told Kobe to pass the ball more until he's 100% healthy. It also looks like Shaq is looking for a more team oriented brand of basketball this year and that's quite surprising given his attitude throughout his career. If Kobe can't see the logic in that then....I dunno what to say.

Shaq being expendable is the funniest thing I've heard about the NBA in a long time. I'm not sure why you're so hard on Kobe's jock.

Watching all the Lakers' games, game tapes, etc and you think they can do it without Shaq. Now that's comedy!
You should trade in those game tapes you have and buy a clue.

You know, the kind of guy who’s trying to date 10 girls at the same time and be so cool.” Kobe was smitten, and soon Jocelyn became a fixture around the Bryant home, eating meals with the family and watching Kobe’s basketball tapes.
If Jocelyn didn’t realize that her boyfriend’s career came first, she got a dose of reality when Kobe announced that his prom date would be the teen R&B star Brandy, whom he’d met for a split-second at the Essence Magazine awards. “He told me that his agent wanted him to ask Brandy because it would help him gain attention,” says Ebron. “I was hurt, but he said it was for the best, so I had to accept that.” Jocelyn wasn’t the only one caught off guard. Brandy “didn’t know who he was,” says an associate of the singer’s. But she thought he was cute after seeing a picture and remembering him from the awards show; besides, “she wanted to go to a prom.” Reporters were on hand to record every precious moment, as Brandy was whisked away from the Bryant family’s Tudor-style home after some shutter time with his beaming parents and grandparents. As one friend of the family observed: “They seemed like a warm, normal family just proud of their son on a big day. But I guess looking back, it all seemed sort of orchestrated.”

In fact, much of Bryant’s life was orchestrated by his parents. Instead of pushing Kobe to go to college (he was an honors student and scored 1080 on his SAT), Joe Bryant worked overtime with the agent he’d hand-picked, Arn Tellum, to make sure his son would be a Laker come draft day, 1996. When the Lakers drew a low number and Kobe was scooped up by the Charlotte Hornets, Joe helped broker a deal that saw Vlade Divac traded to the Hornets in exchange for Bryant. Kobe relocated to Los Angeles that summer, family in tow, and settled with them in a six-bedroom, six-bath mansion he bought in Pacific Palisades. Meanwhile, his mother tried to nurture his budding relationship with Brandy, who was starring in the hit UPN TV show “Moesha.” “His parents and her parents were regularly in contact about the two,” says a source close to both families. “They thought a true romance was bound to happen when they lived in the same city.”
There was just one problem. Brandy wasn’t swept off her feet. On their second date, Bryant took her to Atlantic City to see Barry White, which might have appealed to “Ally McBeal” fans, but Brandy preferred hip-hop to quiet storm. And the singer would have enjoyed going out on Saturday night instead of spending it at Kobe’s house. “He wasn’t this wild guy who wanted to do fun things,” says a friend of the singer’s. “He’d lived in this cocoon provided by his family. Brandy liked to live life.”

Shaq doesn't have to be the best player on the team. He's still the most DOMINANT player on the court when healthy. When he's healthy, he just wears out other players by time the 4th quarter comes around.
