You would derail a Kobe thread.

Kobe is indeed underappreciated. It won't be until he retires that people willl truly understand how great of a player he was.

          Great thread.

I think people are kind of forgetting about prime Kobe way faster than they forgot about prime Jordan, but it's kind of similar, in the way that most people only remember 96-98 Jordan and nowadays it seems like people only remember #24 Kobe...

Guys age, and father time is a unforgiving bastard.

Playing with the likes of Smush Parker and Kwame Brown, who can say they might not have done the same. PHX was so hot that game, almost like that run vs. the lakers a year or two ago.

Strangely, though, Bryant's will to keep shooting didn't last much longer, bringing a muted close to his prolific season. The Ocho attempted just three shots in the second half after ringing up 23 points in the first, in what looked suspiciously like a surrender. Jackson and Bryant both insisted afterward that they were in accord with the second-half approach -- that another 50-point game, as Kobe submitted in Game 6, was not going to save them here -- but it was one more dose of bizarre in a series that had everything.

Other boards I go on have what are called "appreciation threads". The understanding being that those thread are only for a positive discussion of that, player, actor, character, etc. It creates one safe haven away from all the bickering that wreaks most other threads. This basketball board probably needs about 10 or 15 of those for different players, but I'm guessing that folks would be unable to resist launching a few drones into the DMZ.

Kobe still does that. It was just then he was so explosive, that instead of firing up a random turnaround jumper after eighteen pump fakes, he could just elevate and throw it down from almost anywhere.

Not to sidetrack this thread with Jordan. But that is the biggest difference in Kobe career fg% 45 to Jordan's 50%. It is down right shocking that Kobe has never even shot more than 46% in a season. Kobe is just too good to have never shot more than that.

Kobe and I came out of high school at the same time and I was a big big fan of the guy. I, like a lot of others, envisioned him as the next Jordan and in a lot of ways he was Jordan-like. Even though I hated and rooted vehemently against the Lakers I loved watching him play early on. Along the way though he steadily fell out of favor with me, for the same reasons he has fell out of favor with a lot of people.

That said, I can appreciate his game to an extent. He's definitely one of the most talented players I've ever witnessed and his work ethic is second to none. He's not Jordan but he did well enough in establishing his own name so that now some unfortunate baller(s) is going to have to deal with the pressure of being the next Kobe.

The Lakers put all their eggs in one basket to win game 6. If i wasnt for tim thomas they probably would have won the series and kobe might have won the mvp with "Kwame Brown" on his team. Magically he dropped to 4th in the mvp voting.

The great thing about his 81pt game is that his team was down by almost 20 to the raptors and then he took over and his team won by 20.

If that team was good enough to go up 3-1 on the Suns, then they were good enough to win Game 7 as well. Sorry, no, your supporting cast is no excuse.

                              Carry on.

I never understood one thing about his game. Instead of making it easier for him, creating separation, space, he used to take tough, mostly contested shots. Jordan was way different. ometimes it semmed like Kobe was making things harder for him. It should have been the other way round imo.
