Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
I liked Costas as the NBC host. And even though I know he was biased, I enjoyed Peter Vecsey's stuff too. True that Magic and especially Isiah were horrible as halftime hosts, but there was a certain feeling of grandeur when you watched NBC games and especially come playoff time that I don't feel with ESPN/ABC.
I've got a ton of games on tape from the NBA on NBC years, and the whole TV package was just really nice and more professional than ABC.Favorite Sports Teams
NFL - Carolina Panthers
NBA - Charlotte Hornets
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
College Basketball - Wake Forest
NCAA Football - Appalachian StateComment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
LOL. I love the NBA forum....were it was always better in the past.
First, let me say I liked NBC's coverage. It was great at times but lets not go crazy. NBC had just as many "overexcited fans who make ridiculous statements" as ESPN does. Don't forget NBC had Bill Walton, Tom Tolbert, Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas as lead analysts at times during its NBA run.
People romanticize NBC because it was during the Jordan years.
Regarding ABC/ESPN, its not that bad. I don't like their studio hosts (Scott angers me and I dis like Jon Barry) but their play by play teams are pretty good. Turico and Brown are great at times and I liked the three man teams of Breen, Jackson and Van Gundy.
Unless another network throws a ****load of money at the NBA, the TV deal will probably remain with them. The NBA knows that the reason it gets so much attention on Sportscenter is because ESPN has a NBA contract (see how much attention Hockey gets on SC now that its not on ESPN).#RespectTheCultureComment

No different than Walton's "Throw it down" and Magic's constantly mispronouncing names.Comment

I can take the mispronoucing names part, because he at least was talking about what was taking place ON the court LOL.
Your man Van Gundy?
"Why is the sky blue? I don't understand why Lebron constantly chucks up 3s but the sky is blue? Doesn't he care about that like we all do???"#RespectTheCultureComment

Relax man, I didn't mean like you were loyal to him or something lol.
I also think many people wouldn't care if Magic or JVG were there. I mean it ain't like either of them are the Mike Mayock of their sport anyway because they're both horrible LOL.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
For every JVG tirade, there is some pretty good insight from his coach POV....so JVG I can deal with...
And Pack, I dont know if you meant most people wouldnt care if Magic was on COMMENTARY or not.....but its widely known that dude cant even read scripts....so god forbid he try to follow some action lol...I think even the casual fan would rip his ears off.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
NEW YORK -- Negotiators have made significant progress on secondary issues that must be finalized before the new collective bargaining agreement can be ratified and are confident the process will be completed in time for both sides to vote on the deal this week, a person briefed on the process told CBSSports.com.
Lawyers for the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have pared the list of outstanding items to about 50, down from about 250 when the process began Friday, the person said. Among the more important B-list issues, it remains likely that the age limit for draft eligibility will be unchanged and is expected to be revisited at a later date when there is time for more thorough discussion. The two sides also are still negotiating the language on a new drug-testing policy and a provision by which teams will be able to shuttle players back and forth to the NBA Development League.
Player reps from all 30 teams will be in New York Wednesday to discuss details of the new deal. Players and the league's Board of Governors are scheduled to vote eletronically on Thursday, with training camps and free agency slated to open Friday.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
So not sure if it's the same for other teams. But I got a message from the Bulls today that single game tickets will be going on sale Friday.
Also saw this on ESPN
ESPN has the full 2025-26 Chicago Bulls Preseason NBA schedule. Includes game times, TV listings and ticket information for all Bulls games.
Not sure how accurate that is, but two preseason games the 16th and 20th for the Bulls against the Pacers seems to be on tap. Lakers and Clippers on the 19th and 21st. Magic and Heat on the 18th and 21st and Mavs and Thunder on the 18th and 20th. I'm sure every teams has games schedules, but those are the ones I checked before posting.Comment

Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Bargaining Agreement Discussion
ABC has slowly reduced the amount of games they show on TV. I find the ABC presentation very bland (... horrible playoff songs every year ...... *****cat Dolls......) and outside of the main broadcasting team, I'm not a big fan of anybody else that works on the broadcasts.
I would love to see the NBA return on NBC. Sam Flood has done a terrific job with the NFL and NHL on NBC. I want to see what he could do with the NBA.
I'm not a "everything was better in the good ol' days" type of person but NBC was the best TV partner the NBA ever had. They had triple-headers, 2nd best theme song in the history of team sports, the best setting the scene guy in sports history (Bob Costas ... he was a horrible pbp guy though), best basketball pbp guy of all time (Marv Albert), outstanding presentation, and they were willing to show small market teams.Comment
