    tell that to Lebron James

Marion's role all season was to check the opponents best perimeter scorer, and his D was clearly championship caliber

I feel like Rondo and Rose are really getting the shaft here. And JKidd too.

LeBron doesn't belong anywhere near this list. He can be the best perimeter defender, when he wants to be, but usually that's the 4th quarter or if he's having a horrible offensive game. Otherwise, he'll put little to no effort into it, unless he can make a highlight block.

Actually the past two-three seasons he's really picked it up on the defensive end. When he first entered the league his defense was passive at best but now he's seriously stepped it up on that side of the ball. It's be pretty foolish to say he only trites when his game is off as he's shown this past year prominently how good his defense, and defensive instincts are.

He can be good on defense. When he tries.

Usually, that's when he has a bad game or the 4th.

I don't get how that makes him the best defender in the league. Doesn't quite work likes that. Makes him a champion, and one who deserves his ring but that's not what we're talking about.

I don't think any of them are the "best perimeter defender in the nba". I'm guessing you don't either.

Afflalo is a very good, smart, fundamentally sound defender. SG version of Battier, in my opinion.

I didnt say he was the best defender in the league (I said he was better than Tony Allen), but he's certainly in the discussion when it comes to playing perimeter defense.

Dallas lost their only other top caliber perimeter defender in Caron Butler and Marion had to pick up the slack. I don't think theres a player in the league who was depended on to play a bigger role on defense than Marion was and he delivered.

It's interesting to me that Marion gets no credit for his D on Lebron in the finals. That was only a case of Lebron choking by himself I guess..the defense didnt cause that choking at all lol..same with the clutch D Marion played on Durant in the WCF

Don't get me wrong Marion is a good/decent defender but I don't think anyone can say that with Dwight Howard in the league. He's essentially the 21st century Bill Russell ( I know I'm about to get flak for this but it's the truth, the Magic would be GOD AWFUL defensively without Howard and his help defense/all around defensive play.

The thread is "Best perimeter defender in the nba" so if you're not saying he's the best then I don't know why there's an argument being made for him.

I clearly stated he is in the discussion

That means a case could be made for him for best perimeter defender.

                          Tony Allen.

But, if Gerald Henderson can recover from the hip surgery, he will be up on that list in a few years.

That means nothing. Are you making a case for him? I think it's pretty clear he's not the best... it doesn't sound like you think he's the best either. So I'm not sure what the disagreement is. Based on what's asked for in this thread, Marion is not the answer. All I'm saying.

Lebron, hands down. He can guard positions 1-4 & lock them down consistently.
