Agreed. People like to throw in players that they like even though they aren't in the running. I was on another forum and the question was, "Best Artist of all time." Someone said Snoop gets slept on. I was like. . Why is he even being mentioned?

LeBron James has done nothing to warrant a mention in the discussion. I believe it has to be split up between perimeter defender (shooting guards and small forwards) and point defenders (point guards).

As far as defending 2s and 3s its a toss up between Tony Allen and Andre Igoudala with Allen probably getting the edge.

The best defender of point guards in the league right now is Deron Williams who edges out Westbrook because of his track record defending the leagues top point guards.

How is it "pretty clear he's not the best"? Marion played excellent clutch D on Durant in the WCF and Lebron James in the Finals on the way to winning an NBA championship. Dismissing it completely doesnt make any sense.

Personally, I dont know who the best is. There are a lot of factors involved in gauging perimeter defense. All I know is that if I was up by one point with 15 seconds left and needed someone to check Lebron James, Kevin Durant, or Carmelo Anthony, there's not a player I would choose to guard them over Marion

^ If you had to pick someone for the course of a whole season would you pick Marion? Stop creating situations that give you reason to pick a Mav. You appear to be a Mavs fan by your avatar. Marion isn't the best. He shouldn't have been mentioned. Point blank.

Marion really is a top 5 defender. He can guard the post and the perimeter, very well. You have to have seen every SINGLE Mavs game like I did to understand. He easily could be # 2, possibly 1.

This thread isn't about top 5. It is #1. Marion is not #1. Nobody here believes that. Not even you little Maverick fans.

                Anyway, Tony Allen>>>>Everyone.

Yeah, stop being so damn condescending. He has every right to post an opinion here. And he's supporting his thoughts, unlike your comments.

Nobody is being condescending. He has all the "right" to type as he pleases. That doesn't excuse his statement from being inaccurate. This isn't some sort of moral debate here. We don't need to be fair. Marion isn't #1. You know that. I know that. Everyone on here knows that. Not sure why I am the bad guy for shooting down that idea.

Anyone who dismisses Marion completely either has an agenda or didnt pay attention to the champs last season

Everyone wants to say whos #1. While it's possible to determine who the elite defenders are, I dont know if it's possible to determine who the #1 perimeter defender is. There are too many factors involved and depends on preference. Personally, my #1 is the player who checked the opponents' best scorer all season long and proceeded to lock down Lebron James on the way to winning the championship.

Ill take the player who locked down Lebron James in the Finals over the player who let Kevin Durant score 39 in game 7 to let the Thunder win the semis, but that's probably just me.

Not dismissing him. He is a very solid defender. I just don't think he is #1.

Except you were being kind of condescending... you called them "little Maverick fans".

In what way is that NOT condescending?

Anyway, I like Luol Deng, but I know he's not THE best; I'd probably say Iggy is the best. He can defend all the positions that Lebron can, but I think he puts more emphasis on the defensive side of the ball.

And I came to the rescue because I was appointed by the leadership of the board to keep the peace in the forums. My name is merely a coincidence.

ZB, that isn't the whole story. Fortunately, I charted that game 7.

Against Tony Allen, Durant was 7-11 for a total of 18 points. Two three pointers were made in transition, two back cuts when Allen lost his focus, and the other shots were pull ups/pop shots working off screens.

Allen was highly active, contesting 8 shots and playing aggressive defense on 12 posessions. Indeed, TA was almost impossible to shake with a screen, anticipated drives and poked away dribbles. When Durant tried to post Allen up, he held his ground and Durant just kicked the ball out.

Durant is at least 6'10, mobile, and handles like a guard. Tough cover.
