Why do some call Bird and Magic two of the best players ever? They were the best of the best while they were in there prime, the gap in talent was large back then, and their rivalry almost single handly brought basketball back into prosperity....

Now, so many players are so talented that calling one player the greatest would be premature. Basketball gets a bad wrap for off court issues, so fans don't idolize stars like they use to. Which is why many people will hate Kobe Bryant now just for cheating on his wife(alleged rape not a factor), but they were eager and willing to forgive Magic and Jordan for the same mistake.

We remember greatness, we live ups and downs

what about the celts...the best celts team couldn't come close to containing the Shaquille O'neal of 2001......in the year 2001, this guy was the best basketball player to ever walk the earth.

I feel you on that. As big an MJ fan as I am, I didn't want him to come out of retirement, much less play for the Wiz.

and using the #1 pick on Kwame Brown oh yeah hes a great GM. just cuz you are a great player doesnt mean you are going to be a great executive/coach. they all cant be like larry bird
