IMO opinion, this was all a way for Dallas to rid themselves of one of those big contracts. Raef shouldn't have been resigned for anywhere near the max. This is Nash's contract year and Dallas will resign him after the season. He won't be maxed out but he will resign with big money. He's earned it, LaFrentz on the other hand, hasn't in 2 years. I do see Walker being traded before the trade deadline to someone for a big man. Who that big man is, I have no clue right now. I do think this is for the short-term but long-term, it was a good deal.

good points here i just hate to sacrifice team chemistry for money they were the ones that maxed lafrents weren't they??. i think they have given up on the title this year if this is their final trade and concentrating on next year maybe??? who the hell knows ??

Don't get me wrong, the Mavs are still a good team. It's just a strange, strange deal IMO. You get smaller and even more one-dimensional with this move. You put Dirk in a horrible position to basically defend all the big men out West with little or no help. He's already playing with a bum ankle.

You get absolutely mauled in the post. I mean, looking back at Duncan's numbers in last years WCF is just scary.

And, what happens with Najera now. With Jamison, Walker, Fortson- where does Najera fit in. He's a good contributor, but how much PT does he get now? And to throw a guy like Walker into your lineup a week before the start of the season

I think they were better offbefore this trade, and what they fail to realize is that they dont need all superstars on their team... superstars who are all made out of the same mold... they need a role player whose role is to get boards and be an energizer... they lack that and thats why they are not going to be a factor this year... they were better off getting a mutumbo or a Brian Grant, or someone else who doesnt need to score to be effective..... poor dallas

I'm thinking this trade over and yeah they get some money back in the long run but comeon. They are softer than Liberace at the Playboy Mansion. They need to unload one of their forwards for a Center but who wants any one of them other than Dirk who is not for sale. They could unload Michael Finaley and play Tione there but I would advise against it. They could start Dirk at C but he would get owned by 90% of the league. I liked their team before with Antawn but now there is way too mch of a log Jam. Also they have to wait a while before trading Jamison or Walker. Thumbs down for both the C's and the Mavs

I don't see how the Mavs get weaker down low because LaFrentz was not much of an inside presence. LaFrentz was as much of a jump shooter as the rest of the team. I remember him taking several threes every game rather than posting guys up. He wasn't a big defender either. Sure Shaq and Duncan will be drooling over knocking Dirk or Toine on their *** but that's what they did with LaFrentz too. This really doesn't weaken them inside because Toine is tougher than LaFrentz IMO just shorter.
