    Even though the trade would have crippled LA, Stern made the correct decision. Demps was foolish to truly believe he had complete autonomy, especially when trying to move your best asset to one of the biggest markets and marquee teams. Next he should trade Okafor to Miami for Mike Miller and help them out too.

    Also, Yahoo should stopping taking quotes from Los Angeles executives when involving stories about them.

      I don't understand him, he's going to go to a big market team by hell or high water...what is wrong with NO getting something back in return????????????? Let's face it, the super stars hold ALL the cards here. If patient, a star player can pretty much go to whatever team he likes. Either get traded to a team he likes, if he doesn't like that team he publicly states that he won't sign a long term deal and the deal doesn't get done or just walk as a free agent.

      Without a hard cap it just comes down to what big city owners are willing to shell out the dough.

          This isn't about "disgruntled stars" also...if Paul had 4 years to run on his contract, NO could say "shut the hell up and play".

          But he's got 66 games to go and he walks for NOTHING.
          The bigger picture is that it is LA though. What if CP3 was shipped to the Clippers? Or Golden State? Sure the league would lose a lot of NO's franchise value, but I think it's pretty clear that the owner's complaints revolved LA getting such a big name star immediately post-lockout. The Lakers were already gifted with Gasol (at the time, for nothing). Pop was even ticked.

          Yeah, NO gets screwed. I understand that. But they wouldn't be in such a position if they hadn't have tried to deal him to the Lakers. Even though everyone knew this was coming.

            I think they are going off the premise that losing your star player while eating 30 million in return is not the best interest of the Hornets and the league, and rightfully so, especially if they are trying to find a buyer.

              Deron Williams = messed with Sloan, enraged Utah.
              Carmelo = doesn't play defense/lead
              Amare = doesn't play defense/lead
              Lebron = "quit" in the playoffs. Showed up for training camp.

              I think they realize that there are other teams besides the lakers.

              Fixed.

                  The owners have to realize that the players have decisions to make too. If they wanna go to the Lakers they will go. The owners are the ones who need to be "careful" with the words they choose by rejecting the players to leave just because it's a huge market team. Chris Paul will be frustrated if they keep doing this to him.

                  Why would he want to go for the LAC or the GSW ? If the man wants to go to the Lakers let him go. Rookies come and go. We're gonna see Kemba, Irving, Fredette, Rubio... all of this guys this year. Anyways, anyone saw the tweet that CP3 gave ? Saying : "WoW" Not sure what could this mean lol

                      NO is kinda limited with trade partners though, b/c if Paul doesn't want to sign with a team long term, then why trade for him. Only a handful of places he wants to be.

                          Yeah, let him go..... after his contract expires. This happens in sports wayy too much. So a player wants to play for another team. Well guess what? You're under contract for your current team. Bite the bullet. Play the game. When you're done, you can televise a decision and go on your way.
