Im glad the Chris Paul thing is over with.. we dont have to talk about it anymore

It was still a destination of choice kind of thing because Boston is a contendor and he rejected staying there...

Anyway, Its the precedence I dont like how now guys are going to go all Chauncey and JO and Melo and this is what will always be lead stories from now on, guys wanting to BFF with eachother or there is otherwise some long dragged out stories everytime you just want to watch and enjoy a game

I love Chuck Hayes, hopefully everything is fine.
Good to see them discover this early though, unlike other athletes where it was too late.

Well with the current team on the Celtics would you want to committ 5-6 years to? That's a pretty old roster to play, sure good now but in a few years they probably will be right back to where the Hornets were

Why do you insist that Paul was an absolute saint in this manner?

The guy stated leaving two years before his contract was up to form his own "super team"", Like Matrix said, he handled this terribly by not reporting to camp & etc. Ofcourse, in sports these spoiled athletes will bitch & moan, does it make it right?

I mean, it's called a CONTRACT for a reason, if you sign for 5 years you're supposed to understand what you're getting into.

I'm not saying Paul is the devil in disguise, he handled it FAR better than 'Melo or Howard handle's it now but it's another story of a Star player not playing to his contract, basically forcing the team to a trade.

I suppose a player can ask to be traded every once & a while, but it is becoming a trend of players not playing there contract, threatening to leave without giving the team anything in return.

What's funny is that I don't see any direct quotes from Chris Paul in the last 4-5 pages of this convo...

So yeah, let's bash ESPN and sites like TMZ for ruining the world, but let's believe every quote of what players allegedly say or "sources close to the player" if it validates our point of a player being a prima donna

Chauncey is such a fraud. But it's whatever. I guess "retirement" and "family" wasn't worth $14M.

Owners should stop including player options in deals. Also, "notify by" clauses could be put in place. Players would notify management by let's say, July 31st, if they intend on signing an extension or not. If not, then it's taken as the player asking for a trade and GMs can start to shop them. I don't know if this will work or not. Thinking out loud here.

I don't think players are divas. Yes, they do sign contracts, but they have their right to like their place of employment as well. Some go about it the wrong way, some don't. Not a big deal to me.

Exactly. Did Bird want to link up with Magic? No, he wanted to beat him. But back then, there was organizational/team pride. Bird was a Celtic. Magic was a Laker. But these days too many of the players don't care.

This obviously isn't a hockey thread, but I'm reminded of Ray Bourque who sat through some terrible Bruins seasons and never won a Stanley Cup. Then, planning to retire at the end of his 20th season, and with the Bruins in a bottom 3 position at the half-way point, Bourque asked to be traded to a contender so he could end his career by winning the Stanley Cup. He repeatedly said that if the fans weren't okay with this, or if the Bruins had any shot of winning, he wouldn't leave. But the fans wanted to see him win a Stanley Cup, knew he had given his heart and soul to the team for the past 19 1/2 seasons, and knew that him being traded was the only way he could get that chance. So Bruins fans practically pushed Bourque out the door and became Avalanche fans, rooting for Bourque to win it all, and he finally did. Bourque now works for the team, is still a Boston Sports legend, and entered the Hall of Fame wearing a Bruins Jersey.

Then you have Chris Paul who forces the Hornets into trading him by threatening not to show up at camp if he isn't traded, who threatens to sue the league if the trade doesn't go through, who makes wedding toasts about linking up with his buddies when he still has two years remaining on his contract, and who dictates where he will accept being traded to and threatens to not show up at Celtics camp if he's traded to Boston (basically forcing his GM to reject the offer the GM thought was the best). The thing is, Paul has a long career still ahead of him, and in any one of those years the Hornets could be championship contenders.

It would be one thing if, like Ray Bourque, Paul had given his heart and soul to the city of New Orleans for 15+ years, hadn't won a single thing, and wanted to win a championship before he retired. But Paul did all the things I listed above, and people are defending him? People can claim he's a class act all they want and can implore people not to listen to ESPN's sources all they want, but the bottom line is this: Class acts don't threaten to not show up at camp. Class acts don't force a team to trade them, then force the team to accept a proposal the team believes to be the lesser offer, a proposal that saddles the team with $15 million in additional salary, all because the "class act" wasn't willing to play out the high-paying contract that he signed.

At least guys like Melo, Paul, and Howard let their teams know they weren't going to resign. Let their franchise rebuild with the deals they got/will get.

Yup... It's hard to play with all your heart. But at the end of the it's about making money for both parties.

It's going to be weird to see CP3 in a Clippers jersey.

It's sports for crying out loud. Adults getting paid millions to play sports. That's number one for starters if we wanna talk about what's wrong with society.

When you get paid a fortune to play a game, you can't expect to play by the same rules as everyone else in society i.e. playing out contracts and what have you.

I may not think he's "all class" this and that or the other, but I think some of you guys seem a bit too upset. CP3 gave his heart and soul to the franchise and city for his entire career up to this point. So he didn't play out his last year? Calm the hell down, lol.
Can't really use the "millions of dollars to play a sport" thing when WE are the ones giving them that money. Every time we buy a jersey with their names on it, pay hundreds of dollars to watch them pay live, buy a video game bearing their likeness...you justify their million dollar worth. In the truer sense of what you said, I get you. I totally do...but still...just sayin'...

That's cuz you aren't on Hornets fan sites. There's more than a few that are saying those things. Even going as far to say that he was tanking games in the regular season. I insist to this day that he was saving his knee for the playoffs (and he turned it on then as everyone saw) but whatevs.

That jilted lover thing is srs bsns. But I'm not sweating it. Eric Gordon and that Minn 1st is MORE than enough consolation prize. Especially if we "win big" in the "lottery."
