What do you guys think of the Hawks trading Josh Smith and Zaza Pachulia for KG's expiring contract? I'm just throwing stuff out there.

      FA pool next year

Just to take a look at a few names that stand out that are coming off as unrestricted free agents: Dwight Howard (?), Kirk Hinrich, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Andre Miller, Goran Dragic, Mo Williams, Chris Kaman, Deron Williams (?), Jameer Nelson (player option), Steve Nash (hard to gauge what happens with Nash), Raymond Felton, and Gerald Wallace (player option)

Just names that pop off the list.

After they sign Ibaka and Harden, they'll almost hit the cap. I don't know if OKC is willing to go over. Should be interesting to see if they can somehow keep this core together.

There goes OKC's chances of winning a championship. Let me guess: Awful contract for him right?

                  Something like 13 14 15 16 17 I assume.

Will be interesting to see what pieces stay and what goes. Might be necessary to package Maynor and Ibaka for a locked in PF, and utilize Bird Rights to maintain Harden in order to go over the cap. That's my move at least

If they trade Ibaka, the team that gets him will end up in the Finals and probably win the whole thing.

Absolutely and OKC will never make the playoffs again and it will be all Westbrook's fault.

They are already over the cap. Signing him to this deal makes sure they will be over it again next year.

And then Durant will pull one of these on Westbrook

Yes it is a bad deal. Westbrook is not a max level player period. Aside from that OKC now has two max level players eating up most of their cap and both of those guys play on the wing. That is not a championship winning formula. Unless they plan on going into the luxury tax Harden is most likely going to be gone.

All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook has signed a five-year, $80 million contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti finalized the deal with Westbrook’s agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media Group, on Wednesday night.

he Thunder will hold a news conference when the team returns to Oklahoma City on Sunday.
The agreement, which begins next season, solidifies the franchise’s two cornerstone players – Westbrook and MVP candidate Kevin Durant – for years to come. Westbrook, 23, has emerged as one of the NBA’s most dynamic young guards. He made second-team All-NBA in just his third pro season a year ago.
Westbrook wanted to stay with the Thunder, and the two sides reached an agreement with several days to spare before next Wednesday’s deadline for rookie contract extensions. Presti and assistant GM Troy Weaver made Westbrook the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft when few, if any, league executives considered him that promising of a prospect.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, Westbrook could’ve been eligible for a maximum deal worth 30 percent of the Thunder’s salary cap next season. To do so, he needed to satisfy requirements that included him being named to the All-NBA team twice in four years. Nevertheless, Westbrook gets an extension that pays him 25 percent of the Thunder’s cap and preserves space that allows the franchise to construct future deals for James Harden and Serge Ibaka.
Oklahoma City signed two important frontcourt players, Nick Collison and Kendrick Perkins, to long-term extensions a season ago. The Thunder have started the season 12-3, best in the Western Conference, on the heels of a conference finals appearance last year.

Yeah, a horrible deal indeed and they'll be nothing but a 1st or 2nd rd team at best now all because of Westbrook. Not gonna say it's overreaction but it's damn near pretty close.
