Nets it looks like is throwing 7M a year at Caron along with the Clippers, while Chicago and San Antonio trying to use the MLE at about 5. We'll see what happens. Think he'll end up in SA now especially since RJ is being amnestied.

      Who you talkin bout bro?

      I'm assuming Caron Butler though.

He would fit in with the Clippers.. Clippers should go after Prince or Butler

I don't know how well he would fit with Chicago, can he play the 2 with Deng at 3? Or would they use him off the bench.

SA he would probably see a lot of action, but after watching RJ die a slow and painful death in that system, I'm kinda nervous for the next SF to step in there.

I don't think NJ has any chance at Butler...

If I'm either a rebuilding/playoff/title contending team, there's no way I give this guy 3 years guaranteed money. That's just crazy, IMO.

Would I take him on the Lakers? No. Not even if they needed a SF.

As far as other teams? If I was a contender, depending on what their needs were I probably wouldn't either, specifically if they were gonna need to depend on RJ for more than a role player's role.

Whatever you bid on him is for the length of his contract, so if you bid 3 milli, you're on the hook for 9 million

Why is the market so high for Caron Butler? What did he do in Dallas pre-injury? I'm not so sure he would've played better than DeShawn Stevenson in the Finals...on both ends of the floor.

Someone is going to get "stuck" with him IMHO.

And all of these offers for him sounds relatively the same...so why would he even think of going to the Clippers rather than a contender (Chicago, San Antonio)? Ehh...looks like he's (his agent) is driving up the price.

Before visit to San Antonio, Butler preferred CHI $5M MLE over SAS, and Clippers over Nets at approx $7M for teams with space, source says.
EDIT: Speaking of DeShawn...I think he'll be a great pickup for someone. Assuming he goes to a smaller market (with not too many late night clubs around )...he'll be a great guy off the bench at a good price. He was phenomenal in the Finals.

Ah, my bad. Well then I hope nobody bids on him, because 3 years of guaranteed money on RJ? Wouldn't do it if I were on the best of narcotics.

TBH, he actually played very very well before he got hurt. Was producing and actually looked like a viable third wheel.

That asking price to me is acceptable. 7 mill or 5 mill a year isn't really too bad IMO. I think playing with the Clippers just sounds fun to be honest. Especially considering they have a gaping hole at SF.

And taking a flier on DeShawn Stevenson? Maybe if paid him scraps I'd do it. Otherwise I'm just gonna chalk last year's decent play as a fluke. He was hot garbage before that.

                $7 Mil for Butler?

I like him as a player and been a fan of his game since his DC days....but I'll pass on giving him that much money.

And keep RJ as far from Newark as possible, please. We had some good memories back in the day but there's no need for us to go back down that road at this point.

Heard that it's down to the Warriors and Nets for Tyson's services while the Nuggets(can give him that extra year), Rockets and Nets are still in the running for Nene although BK hasn't met with him AFAIK.

If you're the Nets spending 7 mill on Caron? Hell no
If you're the Clipps spending 7 mill on Caron? Ehh, acceptable. They desperately need a 3. I would go after Prince first though for his defense, then Caron as plan B

Have to agree that the buzz and money being thrown around this free agency is pretty questionable. Such a weak FA market and its one of the few ways teams can improve without having to trade away pieces they would rather keep on deck.

I agree the Clippers need a 3 but what does Caron Butler do? Get them maybe an 8th seed? I will say this though, I think the Clippers will have to include Eric Gordon for a CP3 deal (que everyone telling me but the Lakers don't have to throw in Pau) and they'll need someone on the wings that can score. Butler would fit in well.

I still don't understand this big fascination with the Clippers.

They are the Clippers for a reason yet people are still considering going there?

Yeah, they have Blake Griffin there now but knowing them, they'll find a way to chase him out of town.

I think Butler makes them a legit playoff contender, but beyond that, nothing else. Now if Blake makes leaps and bounds in his development, in the next year they could go to the next level. All depends on Blake.

I don't think they'll be chasing Blake out of town, considering how many fans he puts in seats.

The fascination, bottom line is always the money, and also Gordon/Griffin.

I actually thought the Clippers would be doing something special.

Until they made a preemptive strike by bidding against themselves offering DeAndre Jordan $8M per when he had no offers on the table yet.

The only thing Caron could possibly be doing is upping his value by showing interest there. If he signs with them...I'll be floored.

Tracy McGrady has agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks for the veteran-minimum.

Not that I'm saying LA was a choice, but Jason Kapono got the same deal for two years... or at least that's what's supposed to happen.
